Happy New Year, we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and ready for the new season.

Meet our Committee Members

2019

The Rowing and Management committees have been established for this season, but do you know who they are?

These wonderful volunteers are key to the running of your club and give their time to help make CRC the best it can be. Please take a little time to find out who they are.

They meet on a monthly basis so if you have anything you would like raised at a meeting, please do get in touch, they would love to hear from you.

MEET OLEG

As mentioned in an earlier club email we are very pleased to introduce Oleg Gonorovsky. Oleg’s role will be to build (and ultimately manage) a coaching framework allowing the club’s volunteer coaches to operate as a team, to be enabled to develop their skills both as individuals and as part of the BR development system with the ultimate goal of improving our coaching offered to the club’s athletes and create a consistently improving picture in terms of racing results.

"I am really happy and excited to join the coaching team and to begin working with you. I hope to serve the club well by sharing my personal and professional experience and my love for rowing. I look forward to learning new things from you as well. See you very soon at the boathouse and on the water." Oleg

Boxing Day Regatta 2018 (Mark Sims)

Mild conditions and a light breeze saw a fantastic turnout for the Boxing Day regatta. This annual event sees side by side racing over a 200m course finishing outside the club. Crews are picked out of a hat on the day with up to one non rower in each crew. Probably a record of 16 crews entered, with the ergos being utilised for last minute training. This year we were delighted to welcome representatives from Team Keane with their understated and subdued approach to the event. Rivalries quickly developed especially between crews with different family members and racing was incredibly tight from the first race. One of the semi finals threw up the closest race with one crew catching a crab just before the line allowing the other crew to create a dead heat! There wasn’t too much complaining as both crews returned for the rerow. Nothing was held back as they battled side by side but this time the winning distance was 2 feet.

The much anticipated final was also closely fought with the crew containing a couple of Standleys prevailing over the crew containing a couple of Keanes. Very well done to the crew of Rob, Laura, Miles, Rachael and cox Maddie.

This was a great event with many thanks to all those that helped out from umpiring, getting the boats ready, organising boating to those serving up delicious bacon sarnies

Honorary Life Member

Faye Standley

There was another really important presentation on Boxing Day, with Faye Standley being presented Honorary Life Membership. There is very rarely a day goes by without Faye being seen at the Club. Faye splits her time at the club between her own rowing and training, with coaching others from Learn to Row through to Senior. She currently runs a circuit class during a weekday morning and was has been integral to opening the club up during the day. Faye is currently working mainly with the Ladies Novices whilst training to compete at Masters events inland. She was presented the Christchurch blade by her long term doubles partner, Jennie Emery.

Many thanks from all of the club for all that she has contributed during her time with the Christchurch Rowing Club
