Options for pre-conception and pregnancy

6 June 2018

If you or someone you know is trying to fall pregnant or already pregnant, then I have a quite a few lovely options for you.

I have been working with so many pregnancy ladies lately.  My best friend is 15 weeks pregnant.  A close friend who lives around the corner is about 5 months gone.  One client is having her little girl today and another is due in 2 weeks.  And then I had a lady in this morning for a Reiki session as she is newly pregnant.

If you are pregnant or trying to fall pregnant then I have a number of options for you:

PRE-CONCEPTION - Massage can be very useful to help you relax during this period

FIRST TRIMESTER - Reiki is safe and will keep you balanced during the first trimester

YOUR PREGNANCY - Regular pregnancy massage sessions will help with aches and pains and fluid retention as well as keeping you and bump happy and relaxed

I use Neal's Yard Remedies Mother's Balm in my massage sessions for mum-to-be.  It is 100% organic and fragrance-free, formulated to improve the appearance of stretch marks.  With a blend of skin-nourishing oils and beeswax, it's also clinically proven to increase skin's firmness and elasticity. Mother's Balm is also classified as AllergyCertified, making it a great choice for sensitive skin or for those with skin allergies.

Some great research into homeopathic treatment versus conventional treatment.

Research can be notoriously subjective to read however these results really are very heartening.  829 Patients were treated with homeopathy when conventional treatment had either failed, plateaued in effect or was contraindicated by adverse effects, age or condition of the patient.

Of the 829 patients, 503 (61%) had a sustained improvement from homeopathic treatment, of these:

  • 357 patients (43%) had an excellent response
  • 146 patients (18%) had a good response
  • 6 patients (0.8%) became worse
  • 233 patients (28%) were lost to follow-up

Conditions which improved significantly with homeopathic treatment included: rheumatoid arthritis; osteoarthritis; eczema; asthma; anxiety; depression; irritable bowel; ulcerative colitis; angina; cancer; multiple sclerosis; CFS/ME; migraine/headaches; urticaria, alopecia; asthma; allergic rhinitis, and emphysema.

The 43% of patients who fell into the ‘excellent outcome’ group had a sustained reduction or cessation of allopathic drug treatment.

Healthcare savings were reported as being:

  • Reductions in allopathic drug costs
  • Cancellations of planned surgery
  • Reductions in attendance to hospital specialists
  • Reductions in physiotherapy, occupational therapists and counselling services

Focus on.... poor posture

Are you a bit slouchy?  I know I am!  And even though I am conscious of my posture I do often find that I am slumping a bit or not walking as tall as I would prefer.

Regular massage sessions can help to relax and loosen muscles that are tender due to your less than perfect posture, allowing your body to move more naturally. With regular massage sessions the muscles are relaxed, joints have greater freedom and pressure points are relieved.

This allows the body to position itself more naturally to move pain-free, learning to avoid the movements and positions that have developed over time to compensate for the pain or discomfort caused by bad posture and stress.

So if you want to really rock that little summer dress, just give Leslie a call on 07871 697000 to arrange for your regular sessions and let's focus on that posture.

Focus on... adrenal fatigue

This is the time of year when we think we should be energised - getting out there and enjoying the weather.  ButSo many of my clients have been dealing with emotional, mental and/or physical stress for so long for whatever reason. Constantly tired. Lethargic. Mind always buzzing with what needs to be done.

Sound familiar? You may well be suffering from adrenal fatigue. If this sounds like it could be you, book in for regular massage sessions. It may well be the answer for you.

Multiple studies have shown that massage therapy can lower cortisol levels, increase dopamine and serotonin (our happy, feel-good hormones) and lower excitatory hormones like norepinephrine and epinephrine - otherwise known as adrenaline.

If you have too much norepinephrine or epinephrine it can lead to feelings of anxiety. Too little dopamine and serotonin can cause depression and other psychological problems. It is such a fine balancing act!

And if massage therapy can help to bring that balance then it may just be the right approach for you. Homeopathy is also a very appropriate form of treatment to consider.
