Students can vote for their favorite during advisory. Each day the following week, we will show one of the top five movies that students voted for in the library classroom. For this month's example, we chose to highlight one of our quick lessons we did for a Social Studies teacher for a public policy project. We want to be clear that there is no need for us to take up an entire period when your students just need a little help with research or citation. This lesson involved simply showing students the best database to use and how to search for keywords. Click on the button below to see the one-sheet on how to use one of the library databases. Intelligence Under the Microscope: Brain Power "According to several IQ studies, our intelligence is declining as populations grow. Why should that be? And is IQ an adequate measure of human intelligence - the amazing faculty that has enabled us to achieve dominion over nature? Scientists from many different fields are scrutinizing our intelligence, be it innate (genetic) or acquired through environment, education and learning processes, in an attempt to determine what intelligence really is. Meanwhile, others are working on ways of boosting our brain power." -CVOD Click on the image to the left for access to this video! | | "Both George Orwell and Winston Churchill came close to death in the mid-1930's--Orwell shot in the neck in a trench line in the Spanish Civil War, and Churchill struck by a car in New York City. If they'd died then, history would scarcely remember them. At the time, Churchill was a politician on the outs, his loyalty to his class and party suspect. Orwell was a mildly successful novelist, to put it generously. No one would have predicted that by the end of the 20th century they would be considered two of the most important people in British history for having the vision and courage to campaign tirelessly, in words and in deeds, against the totalitarian threat from both the left and the right. In a crucial moment, they responded first by seeking the facts of the matter, seeing through the lies and obfuscations, and then they acted on their beliefs. Together, to an extent not sufficiently appreciated, they kept the West's compass set toward freedom as its due north." -Goodreads | | |

| | "This Hugo Award-winning graphic novel chronicles the fall from grace of a group of super-heroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the super-hero is dissected as the heroes are stalked by an unknown assassin. One of the most influential graphic novels of all time and a perennial best-seller, Watchmen has been studied on college campuses across the nation and is considered a gateway title, leading readers to other graphic novels such as V for Vendetta, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and The Sandman series." -Goodreads Note - This book is not available in ebook or audiobook format.
