Do you hygge....?

29 March 2017

I have recently starting incorporating the Danish concept of 'hygge' into my life.  And I think this can easily be translated into taking time for yourself through regular massage sessions.

And if you would like to have a chat about which of my treatments would be best for you, why not book a free consultation which can be by phone, by Skype or in person.  More details below.

Hygge!  Have you heard of it?

Pronounced 'hoo-gah', this is commonly known as the Danish art of living simply and living well.

Hygge means different things to different people.  It is more a feeling that is personal to you than something specific.  It is about appreciating the things that make you happy.

Finding cosiness in the winter snuggling in front of the fire with candles burning. Or for me, at this time of the year, taking some time to sit in the sun and crochet!

Scottish Widows carried out a survey which indicated that 22% of us in this country crave more 'me time'.  And for many of us Hygge followers, we find that we want some way to relax and reconnect with ourselves away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.  And being more appreciative of the simple pleasures to be found around us can boost our happiness and overall sense of wellbeing.

And this got me thinking... for many of us a massage session can be very 'hyggelig'!  Taking the time to focus on yourself.

So if you want to include some hygge in your life and you think that massage will tick that box, then give me a call and let's get you booked in.

Unsure of what therapy would be best for you?

Why not book a free 15 minute consultation? This can be by phone, by Skype or you can pop in and see me. Or just pick up the phone and give me a call.

Focus on... adrenal fatigue

So many of my clients have been dealing with emotional, mental and/or physical stress for so long for whatever reason.

Constantly tired.  Lethargic.  Mind always buzzing with what needs to be done.

Sound familiar?  You may well be suffering from adrenal fatigue.

If this sounds like it could be you, book in for regular massage sessions.  It may well be the answer for you.

Multiple studies have shown that massage therapy can lower cortisol levels, increase dopamin and serotonin (our happy, feel-good hormones) and lower excitatory hormones like norepinephrine and epinephrine - otherwise known as adrenaline.

If you have too much norepinephrine or epinephrine it can lead to feelings of anxiety.  Too little dopamine and serotonin can cause depression and other psychological problems.  It is such a fine balancing act!  And if massage therapy can help to bring that balance then it may just be the right approach for you.

Something to think about?

Focus on.... deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage techniques are designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissues that are cased by repetitive physical activity or trauma.

You will find that a deep tissue session is more interactive than a Swedish massage session as I need feedback from you when working on trigger points to eliminate pain and relax the muscles.

Working slowly, we allow your muscles to open up to allow deep work.

Benefits of deep tissue massage include:
* stimulation of blood and lymph flow, increasing the supply of oxygen and removal of toxins
* loosens subcutaneous tissue and fascia to increase muscle pliability and tissue permeability
* reduces swelling, bruising and pain after injury
* speeds up the healing process
* breaks down and reduces adhesions between injured or unhealthy muscle fibres
* increases the range of movements in the joints
* reduces stress on other muscle groups that may be overcompensating for the injured area
* stretches specific localised areas of tissue, leading to greater range of movement
* positively affects the nervous system by stimulating nerve receptors to reduce pain

Get in touch with me to book your session. Regular massage sessions really can make a difference if you are struggling with chronic pain or an injury.
