Walton Small Boats Head: December 10th

Walton Head in the depths of winter can prove challenging with blizzards, rain, balmy sunshine or a last minute move to Dorney lake all possibilities. This year promised torrential downpours and thankfully failed to deliver instead providing a muggy stygian gloom with flat water and little stream. The club had boats racing in all 3 divisions with some success.

Steve Aldridge commented that "Everyone performed very well, and lots valuable data obtained for the JW group. The performance of the day was from Charlie Brad coming 3rd out of 39 in the WJ15 single. Encouragingly, there is not a great difference in speed within the squad which bodes well when we start racing in a quad."

Thanks to The Captain and Steve for managing boats and loading and The Cheethams for towing.

Teddington Small Boats Head 3rd December

Peter Tyson reports:

Teddington was cold so sitting by Hampton Court Palace waiting for the off I was very pleased to been given the North bank allowing a touch of sunlight to warm the bones. With very little wind and a flat river I was able make good time, avoiding the twin obstacles of Ravens Eyot at halfway and misplaced anticipation of the finish at the first bridge and finishing 4th in combined Masters E-G 1x.

Christmas Party: December 10th:

The Captain Reports:

A great time was had by all of those at the CRC Christmas party on Saturday. The event was well supported form all sections of the club and marked the start of the festive season. A big thank you goes out to Paula and friends for organising. The J15/J16 girls kicked proceedings off with an entertaining rowing and CRC based quiz. Due to the lack of a microphone they admirably demonstrated their potential as coxswains by drowning out the noise from the bar, with Emma particularly looking to apply for the position of Town Crier. This quiz was inevitably won by a couple of the coaches and their partners, which in no way was due to the fact that the said coaches were the subject of a number of the questions !

While waiting for the results to be announced the party was treated to the club rendition of the 12 days of Christmas by the coaches. Due to the singular tone to be found amongst all the coaches, two members of the Gilbert and Sullivan society were invited to lift the musical aspect of this “entertainment”.

Stretching of the vocal chords in this manner meant that further lubrication was needed, which dictated that participation in the boat race was required. After successfully seeing off the opposition, further recollections become somewhat less clear.

Congratulations to all those that made it to rowing on a sunny and windless Sunday morning, and more training sessions to those that didn’t !!
