WEEKLY RECAP August 24th - 30th, 2019 |
Highlights from the Blog and Facebook |
| | Saturday, August 24th (AM) The goal is not to seize control of EVERYTHING that happens, either in your mind or your world. And that's the good news... | | |
| | Saturday, August 24th (PM) Breathe. You're not doing yourself any favors by putting MORE pressure on yourself to succeed. | | |
| | Sunday, August 25th (AM) Relapse isn't the end of the world, but it is manageable...but only if we take the time and space to get our head together and get back on track. | | |
| | Sunday, August 25th (PM) A big problem with tools and skills is remembering that they're there and using them when it's time to use them. We tend to forget our tools and skills when we're under pressure. | | |
| | Monday, August 26th (AM) Remember: your day, your week, your year, your recovery, and your life, are going to go in phases. There are going to be cycles. Up times; down times. This isn't evidence of inconsistency. This is the very nature of human experience. | | |
| | Monday, August 26th (PM) Whatever tools, whatever stories, whatever characters, whatever music, whatever hacks, whatever works for you to get you moving toward your goals...embrace them. It simply doesn't matter what anybody thinks of the tools that effectively motivate YOU. | | |
| | Tuesday, August 27th (Blog) "OH, US SILLY CONTROL FREAKS." In other words, our focus is key— but it’s not our focus that does the work for us. We do the work. Our focus determines what we’re willing and able to do. | | |
| | Tuesday, August 27th (PM) One of the most important skills to living well is flexibility. We need to recognize when our needs change, our desires change, our goals change, or our capacities change. Sometimes we set an initial goal for ourselves that is too ambitious. We bite off more than we can chew. | | |
| | Wednesday, August 28th (AM) Dealing with frustration is a skill. And like any skill, it takes a while to master. There are going to be times when you're not great at dealing with frustration--times when you're just sick and tired, of BEING sick and tired. Easy does it. | | |
| | Wednesday, August 28th (PM) Just remember: "being positive" not about what you acknowledge in a situation. You acknowledge everything -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's about what you seek out, amplify, and build on. | | |
| | Thursday, August 29th (Blog): “WORK HARD. WORK SMART. STAY SHARP.” There’s no guarantee that the things you put work into, will work out. I wish there was such a guarantee. It’d be amazing if hard work was the only factor that went into whether a project was successful or not. Unfortunately, however, we all know the truth: hard work does not guarantee a successful outcome. | | |
| | Thursday, August 29th (PM) Talk to someone you care about-- who you're not required to talk to in the course of your job-- every day. I know, I know. To a lot of us this seems obvious. But you'd be surprised how isolated a lot of people become. It's not necessarily that anyone tries to isolate themselves, though I suppose some do. For most people it's just a matter of, the pace of their life and the timing of their day gets in the way. | | |
| | Friday, August 30th (AM) There is a time and a place for confronting trauma--and there is also a smart process for doing it. It requires patience and preparation to do it safely and effectively. | | |
| | Friday, August 30th (PM) We have choices, all day every day, about what to notice and pay attention to. We have choices about what to express and how to interact with people. | | |
