SWEET SIXTEEN

In the last month we’ve welcomed these new children into our home, bringing the number of added children for this calendar year to
Sweet 16.
Overall, we have 110 children now.

Obed & Metu
Obed and Metu were abandoned by their mother and their father unfortunately has cancer coupled with other major health conditions, therefore, he is unable to provide for the boys. Their father appears to be a very kind man and truly loves his boys. This was a heart wrenching decision for him. He stopped by this week to see the boys and it was a good reunion. The boys ran to Rhonda right away to let her know that he had come, then quickly joined the other children in play.

Yvonne & Michelle

Michelle - 6 Years Old

Yvonne and Michelle’s story is quite different from Obed and Metu. These girls were abandoned by their dad. Some time later their mom re-married, but when their step father died, their mother turned to drugs and alcohol. She wandered with the girls from place to place and then eventually she disappeared as well. The girls ended up staying with an aunt who is dying from HIV/AIDS and unable to care for them. A community member realized the girls were on their own and contacted the children’s department.

Since they have never had stability in their lives, they have never attended school. Yvonne was SO excited to receive a school uniform, new shoes, back pack and books. Isn’t that expression priceless!
 
Both girls struggle socially, especially Yvonne. We are literally teaching them social skill that two-year-olds must learn. Yvonne is learning to give and receive positive touch and hugs, while Michelle can’t seem to get enough. I’m quite certain they’ve never experienced such genuine affections before.
 
There are deep, deep wounds. Please pray that God will give us divine understanding and that He will bring healing in their hearts and minds

Marueen - 9 Years Old
 
We shared this story with our prayer team, but we wanted to share this victory with you all as well.

Maureen is evidence of a life transformed by God. She came to us this January. Her father had abandoned her and her mother committed suicide while trying to kill Maureen in the process. It is a miracle that Maureen survived. She arrived ~ out of control and angry! She was almost expelled from school her first week. Through prayer and counseling, Maureen has given her life to Christ and was baptized last month. She literally has been transformed from the inside out. She has a beautiful smile and is at peace. Her transformation is evidence of God at work and brings such encouragement!
