OCCI and AILIA’s Joint Submission to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration - Addressing the need for standardization, regulation, and professionalization of interpreting January 10, 2018 As a follow up to the November 30, 2017 presentation by Lola Bendana to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration concerning resettlement issues related to Yezidi women and girls, the Ontario Council on Community Interpreting (OCCI) and the Language Industry Association of Canada (AILIA) are hereby pleased to present this briefing on resettlement issues and the importance of professional interpretation for the proper settlement of immigrants such as the case of Yezidi women and girls. Interpreters working in sensitive and complex settings such as health care, legal, immigration, social services and settlement services, are currently not regulated in Canada. The absence of regulation implicates a serious risk to users of interpretation services and to the public.
Read the full briefing here. OCCI and AILIA were invited to speak as part of a larger study on the resettlement issues related to Yezidi women and girls. To read more on the various briefings presented, click here. |
