HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here at Jacoby Arts Center (JAC), with the new year, we set our sights on new goals, new ideas, and new opportunities. We look forward to building our network of artists and dedicated volunteers, rebuilding our membership to offer greater value to members and earn greater support, and continue to offer diverse opportunities for all to engage with the arts. We have a transition on the Board and three Directors are stepping down. A special thanks for their service and hundreds of hours committed to keeping the building maintained, bar tended, and exhibitions and performances going. Though we are sad to see them go we are excited to fill those positions with new energy and are reorganizing to lessen the burden of operational involvement that has been required in the past. We are cleaning up; finishing some projects and upgrading our information systems to better serve the community and manage information in the near future. JAC's winter class schedule is filling up quickly and we look forward to offering more and varied classes throughout the year. The Artist Shop will remain open and we are excited to bring in new artwork and select art supplies for sale! We plan to continue our partnership with the Bankside Reperatory Theatre Company and offer, in additon to the remaining shows of their 2017/18 season this spring, a new season of plays beginning in the Fall. With improvements made to the galleries last year, we can increase the number of exhibits throughout the year. We will continue to seek out musicians for performances and continue open mic nights. We hope to expand the arts education programming offered at JAC and to better reach the needs of our community through cultural programming and community outreach. With newness abound we will continue to stay true to our mission to nurture and promote the practice and appreciation of the arts in our community. Whether it is art classes for children or adults, a relaxing yoga session, amazing art exhibits, offering work space for practicing artists, music or theater events, or hosting your special event, there is something for everyone at JAC. Engage your imagination, enrich your life - we look forward to seeing you here in 2018! You can learn more here or email us at info@jacobyartscenter.org. |

Above: "It Can't Happen Here, Can It", Jim Lynn Opening Reception // February 2, 2018 // 5-7pm Gallery Talk // February 10, 2018 // 2pm Jim Lynn's "Abstract Art and Meaning" will be in the East Gallery from February 1 - March 10, 2018. This is a solo show of ten to twenty works of art that hopes to illustrate, explain, and enlighten viewers as to how abstract art is more than petty. The artist initiates a discussion of current events through his mixed media paintings on stretched canvas using color, shape, design, and some text. "I present these topics from a no spin position, offering all voices a chance to expand their views on these subjects." |

EVENT RENTALS Jacoby Arts Center is a beautiful and distinctive setting for your next special event, a celebratory party, business meeting, or community gathering. We can serve your needs with tables and chairs, wifi, a great stage, high ceilings and airy elegant space. “The Jacoby embodies the historic, post-industrial, creative, quirky spirit that separates the Riverbend from the suburbs.” — Vicki Allen "Working with JAC was very easy. Stacey was very flexible in responding to our needs and offered many great ideas that helped make our party a resounding success. We were looking for a location that was a step above the average banquet room. JAC helped make our 50th Anniversary Party a beautiful, classy, and enjoyable event that could not be equaled in the Alton area. We would gladly rent the room again.” — Jamie Pullen | | |
