WHAT'S ON MY DESK When I'm not riding my horse, I'm writing! This Month's Project: I'm making final tweaks to Book One of the new trilogy (see Book News below). This book was almost to print, but a delay has given me the chance to change a few things, including a character's name! Have you ever named one of your characters and then regretted it? Well, that happened to me. This particular name was confusing to pronounce and awkward. I chose it because it belongs to a villain--and I didn't want to bond with her--mistake! So I emailed my editor and asked if I could re-christen this character and she said go for it!! Woohoo, it's not every day an author (or a character) gets a second chance! |

HERD NERDS! Awhile back, I was wondering what to call the Guardian Herd fandom, but everyone told me--the fans will name themselves! It hit me one day that Mega Fan, Lily L., had already done so. GUARDIAN HERD TRIVIA! Here's a question I get a lot: What happened to Flamesky, Stripestorm, Jetfire, Rowanwood, Maplecloud, and all the other Sun Herd steeds who disappeared after STARFIRE? Book One Spoiler Alert: After Star received his power, he left the five herds to live in the Vein. He invited any steed who wished, to join him. About 500 pegasi followed Star that day. When he looked back: "Rockwing, Sandwing, and Smokewing, were dividing up the remaining Sun Herd pegasi and forcing them to join their herds." -page 245, STARFIRE I didn't write where each pegasus ended up, but the above steeds did not follow Star, they didn't even like him. We do know that Twistfire went to Snow Herd, became Twistwing, and joined with Petalcloud. I believe that Jetfire and Maplecloud, two steeds who require order and strong leadership, went to Desert Herd. Most of the youngsters went to Jungle Herd--the mellowest, most ceative, and most welcoming herd in Anok. You all ask great questions!! |

BOOK NEWS You might want to sit down for this. There are big changes happening with PROMISE KEEPER. They are good!! However, they have resulted in a publishing delay. The new release date is not official yet, all I can say right now is Summer of 2018. Why? This trilogy is being re-packaged by my publisher into a BRAND NEW SERIES! There will be new titles and new covers. The plot and characters will remain the same. As you can imagine, this was a big decision for my publisher. There was nothing at all wrong with the orginal title or cover (in fact, the cover was awesome!). But Harper did not want to miss the chance to introduce this world that we all love to new readers. And the trilogy is the perfect opportunity to do this because Echofrost and her friends travel to a new continent where they encounter Landwalkers and other strange creatures. The entire pegasus universe is expanding! I'm touched by how much HarperCollins believes in this series--they are Herd Nerds too! It will be difficult to wait--for all of us--but it will be worth it!! So a new cover reveal, publishing date, and book teasers will be coming soon! |

WINGBEATS Book Club THE PRINCESS AND THE FOAL by Stacy Gregg Let's start our own book club!! I'll suggest a book and then whoever wants can join me in reading it. It will be fun knowing we're all reading the same novel! Next month, I'll let you know what I thought about it. I'll choose this month's title, but please feel free to suggest a book for me to choose. Let's stick with children's fiction and non-fiction. BRIEF SUMMARY: "A novel of heart and courage inspired by the incredible story of a real-life princess and the foal she loves."
