We are so proud of all of our CFK Athletes and will be featuring our athletes each month.  This month, we are very pleased to introduce Brian!

In general, what is your athletic background? The usual childhood sports but I’m mostly a distance runner, I like to bike as well.

 

How did you learn about CrossFit Kalamazoo? My chiropractor had been encouraging me to try CrossFit for months and I was driving past the Kalamazoo CrossFit box on my daily commute craning my neck to see people inside…I finally decided to contact Coach Tim and give it a try.

 

How has CrossFit Kalamazoo changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? I’ve had some ongoing back issues and CrossFit has strengthened my back/core, I haven’t had any back problems since beginning the training. After a knee surgery last year I thought my knee would never fully recover. It took a few months of training at Kalamazoo CrossFit but my knee has made a complete recovery. These two changes coupled with overall strength increase have improved my fitness level.

 

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through CrossFit Kalamazoo: I would like to begin training for another marathon or triathlon in the upcoming year. I’m interested to see how the strength I’m gaining through CrossFit will impact my times.  Also, I’d like to beat Nichole at anything. That’s a long term goal unless I decide to go the Tonya Harding route. If it happens, I’m making a commemorative t-shirt.

 

What do you like most about CrossFit Kalamazoo? Besides the workouts, it’s the people! It’s like a big weirdo family.

 

 

 

 

 

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Turkish Get Ups and Overhead Squats.

 

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement?  Anything with the word wall.

 

What are you currently doing to try to improve your diet?  I’m not a big eater so making sure I am consuming enough of the right foods throughout the day is key. I noticed right from the beginning that I needed to eat more to keep up with the WODs.

Favorite music genre/artist: Genre: Country and Artist: John Mayer

 

Achievements you’d like to highlight within your life:  #1 My first marathon…it was my first race I’d ever signed up for and I had no idea what I was doing during training, ended up with a lot of stress fractures.  #2 I’ve never been married. (That’s an accomplishment right?) #3 Last week I managed to leave Costco with a bill under $100

 

List a few things we don’t know about you:  When I was around 8 years old I decided I was going to stop bathing. I pretended to bathe for a whole month before getting caught. My sister was then put in charge of catching me. In retaliation, I took my badass Mackinaw Island souvenir pocket knife and scratched my name into everything she owned. The highlight was carving my name into her alarm clock snooze button. #DontCrossMe

On-Ramp Classes

Our On-Ramp class provides coaching in a smaller group setting and is mandatory for those who are new to CrossFit.

 

This class is programmed to teach you the movements, techniques and lingo and is an hour in duration.  We want to ensure that you have a good foundation built before you jump into our regular WOD!  The cost of this class is $65 (up to 8 classes scheduled over a 2 week period - 5 are mandatory before you move on to a regular WOD)

 

Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday at 8:00 p.m.   If you are not able to attend this scheduled class, we can reschedule as needed & there will be an additional $10 per class for any class done outside of our regular time slot. Call Coach Tim at 269-251-1677 for more information.

Try A Class - Now Offered Every Saturday! 

We will have opened up our Saturday 10am WOD as a time for CFK Athletes to bring friends and we will be inviting others who want to try CrossFit to this class!

 

This option will allow you to join our CFK Athletes in a partner WOD and you will be encouraged to do it at your pace.  This is a great opportunity to try out a workout at our facility, visit with our CFK community and be a part of the Community that makes CrossFit Kalamazoo so great!

 

The cost to join this class is $10 (limited to newbies to CrossFit and does not apply to experienced CrossFitters dropping in).  If you sign up for our On-Ramp class, the $10 intro fee will be applied to the cost of the On-Ramp class. After the first class you may still attend the Saturday Partner WOD as a non CFK member by purchasing a $15 Standard Drop-in.
