ACTION ALERT! CALL & TWEET YOUR SENATOR for a Meaningful Police Reform |
|
|
Under Maryland law only sworn police officers can decide whether an officer should be disciplined. Legislation will be reviewed in the MD Senate this week, with the possibility of lifting this restriction to allow civilians to participate on police trial boards. As this Bill goes to the Senate floor for final voting & approval, we need your help in CALLING YOUR SENATORS to pass this bill with meaningful civilian oversight. You can tell your Senator that you are: "Calling in support of Senate Bill 1026 to have meaningful civilian oversight in cases of police brutality under investigation. Giving voice and vote to civilians in police discipline process will ensure that police are not policing themselves. This will also ensure impartial judgement without bias, as the boards are currently composed only by police. Passing this bill will foster the support of voters and civilians in Maryland who have been affected and deeply frustrated with a system that has been regarded as unresponsive to citizens’ needs since the death of Freddie Gray." Help us support this practical legislative change that can effectively address police abuse and misconduct in Maryland. |
