We are so proud of all of our CFK Athletes and will be featuring our athletes on our website.  This month, we are very pleased to introduce Josh!

In general, what is your athletic background? High school tennis, pickup basketball, and a bit of weight training in college.

 

How did you learn about CrossFit Kalamazoo? I discovered CrossFit while looking for an alternative to gym memberships. The idea of constantly changing workouts and a social atmosphere appealed to me.

 

How has CrossFit Kalamazoo changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?

I value CrossFit most when doing normal life stuff like lifting/carrying things and it goes so much easier. When my dad and I put the dock and boat lift in last summer, it felt like a challenge instead of a chore

 

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through CrossFit Kalamazoo:  Double-unders still elude me. I need to put the time in to master these. Long term I want to be healthy and active.

 

What do you like most about CrossFit Kalamazoo? I like the people first. It’s friendly and supportive. The workouts are well-planned and up on the whiteboard so you know what you have to do.

 

 

 

 

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Cleans

 

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? Wall climbs make me want to hurl.

 

What are you currently doing to try to improve your diet? I like to have a green smoothie every day. (spinach, kale, berries, almond milk) I also find that lean protein like fish and chicken plus whole grains/veggies make me feel great.

 

Favorite movie: Rushmore

 

Favorite and/or current book:  A Farewell to Arms

 

Favorite music genre/artist: Hard to pick one so I’ll go with The Beatles.

 

Achievements you’d like to highlight within your life:  Marrying my wife, Melia,welcoming our son Ethan into the world a few days ago, earning my MBA at Notre Dame, leading great teams while working for a great healthcare system.

 

List a few things we don’t know about you:  My wife and I lived in Vietnam for a year teaching English, I marched for a season in the Spartan Marching Band at Michigan State, I’ve hiked the 3-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and the Narrows at Zion National Park, I love seeing a movie at the theater with popcorn any day of the week!

 

In 10 words or less, what does CrossFit mean to you?  CrossFit never lets you get into a rut. It’s fun!

2016 Reebok CrossFit Games Season Schedule

Five Weeks | Feb. 25 - March 28, 2016 16.1: Feb. 25 - 29 16.2: March 3 - 7 16.3: March 10 - 14 16.4 March 17 - 21 16.5 March 24 - 28 Registration for the Open begins Jan. 14, 2016. More than 272,000 people from around the globe competed in the Open last year.

On-Ramp Classes

Our On-Ramp class provides one-on-one coaching and is mandatory for those who are new to CrossFit.

 

This class is programmed to teach you the movements, techniques and lingo and is an hour in duration.  We want to ensure that you have a good foundation built before you jump into our regular WOD!  The cost of this class is $65 (up to 8 classes scheduled over a 2 week period - 5 are mandatory before you move on to a regular WOD)

 

Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday at 8:00 p.m.   If you are not able to attend this scheduled class, we can reschedule as needed & there will be an additional $10 per class for any class done outside of our regular time slot. Call Coach Tim at 269-251-1677 for more information.

Community WOD Update:

Our Community WOD is every 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 – 9:45 am!  The cost of this intro class is $10.00. Call Coach Tim at 269-251-1677 or email crossfitkalamazoo@aol.com to reserve a spot.

 

If you sign up for our On-Ramp class afterwards, this $10 will be credited back to you!
