Blood Memory Project Update

Dear friends,

The Blood Memory storyline has taken off in a way we never could have imagined!

This Friday, our film crew will visit Phoenix, AZ to attend the oral argument hearing for  A.D. v. Washburn - a case filed against Kevin Washburn, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Sally Jewell, Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and Gregory McKay, Director of Arizona's Department of Child Safety.  This ICWA-challenging class action was filed "on behalf of all off-reservation Arizona-resident children with Indian ancestry in child custody proceedings and the foster, preadoptive and prospective adoptive parents of these children" by the Goldwater Institute in July of this year.

While in Arizona, we'll capture interviews with both Clint Bolick, the Goldwater Institute’s Vice President for Litigation, as well as Goldwater Institute investigative journalist Mark Flatten.  We'll also spend some time with local Tribal leaders and others who will be gathering in support of the motion to dismiss A.D. v. Washburn.

As with any Blood Memory adventure, we'll be sure to post updates and exciting moments on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

IN OTHER NEWS: I'm excited to announce that we've edited our website to include moments from our time spent at the Annual Rosebud Fair & Wacipi in Rosebud, SD this summer!

There are some beautiful new film stills in our gallery, too!

Thank you for supporting this project and for taking an interest in the the Indian Child Welfare Act.  I'll send out another update when our crew returns from Arizona next week!  If you're in the area, let me know!  We'll be around for several days surrounding the hearing.

In the meantime, if you know of anyone who might also be interested in receiving Blood Memory Project Updates, please encourage them to join our mailing list.

Cheers!
