Alright August, here we go! |
I begin these exclaiming, "WOW! I can't believe it is already whatever-the-month-is!" |
*Pretend it's the 1st of the month <3 |
If you've taken my class recently you may have heard me talk about Roshi Joan Halifax's latest book Standing at the Edge |
Roshi Joan coined the term "edge states", and credits these moments to be vital to her work as a change agent. Which made me think about yoga practice and how often I've been told, and to instruct others to find their edge in poses. |
*pencil diving at White Lotus Foundation Yoga is a play with edge states, you breathe into the edge of a stretch to go further. I feel this is where less flexible yogis have a lot to gain, they can find their edges quickly and have a lot to explore. |
Roshi Joan breaks down "five edge states, with both their positive and negative aspects, are altruism, empathy, integrity, respect, and engagement. My contention is that the way we transform the conditions that are toxic in each of the edge states is through the medium of compassion." Woah.

"It takes a strong back and a soft front to face the world." -Roshi Joan Halifax
