International Translation Day -
Raising awareness about the role of language professionals
Since 1953, FIT has promoted September 30th as a day to pay tribute to the work of language professionals.
Last year, the United Nations General Assembly issued a resolution declaring the day as International Translation Day as means to formally recognise the role of translators and interpreters in connecting nations.
In the resolution, the UN affirmed "that professional translation, as a trade and an art, plays an important role in upholding the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security;" and it requested that "the Secretary-General to continue to preserve high quality and excellence in the work of language professionals in the United Nations." We would like to take this opportunity to recognize all the hard-working community interpreters in Ontario and across Canada - you are helping to bring our communities together!
We would also like to acknowledge the OCCI Accredited Community Interpreters, current ACI candidates, the OCCI team of volunteers, and our sponsors who are committed to playing a key role in the delivery of
high quality and excellence in the work of interpreters in Ontario.
Happy International Translation Day!
