Wondering how you can make it through the holiday season without the weight gain and bloated feeling?

Follow these tips and come out feeling good on the other side of the New Year.

Expect to succeed...

 

Fail to plan and you plan to fail. People often expect to eat more, exercise less and gain weight over the holidays. Instead of taking control, they set themselves up for failure. You can avoid this failure by setting up expectations for success. Keep your standards high and make the decision to succeed.

 

Plan your workouts...

 

If you’re traveling, bring your workout gear. If you’re home and cooking, plan time in your schedule to make sure you fit it in. This is one of the more important times to keep your exercise routine. Planning is key to your follow-through. Make it a point to stay on-course and rally others to join you.

 

Stay hydrated...

 

You should be drinking water all day, every day so now is the time to make sure you keep doing what you’re already doing. You can also include herbal teas, almond (or other) milk, soups and fruit and veggies with high water content in your fluid intake count. Half your body weight in ounces of water is a good guideline, more if you're active.

Make the best choices...

 

When you're not in control of what is being served, take charge of your plate and make the best choices possible to keep you on track. If you plan to have dessert, prepare for those extra calories during your meal and pull back a bit. Choose vegetables & proteins and if none of the choices are good, keep your portions small, eat slowly and chew your food well. You can also offer to make something so you know you will have a healthy option.

Keep an attitude of gratitude...

 

Enjoy the time with family and friends. Take a moment to appreciate and be thankful for all the joys you have in your life and focus on the good in people. If you’re feeling stressed, take time to breathe, go for a walk or find some alone time to decompress.
