Love Across the USA is a community public art project started by Olek, an active supporter of women's rights who has used her art to advocate for women's issues worldwide. The goal of this project is to celebrate positive women's voices throughout United States' history by bringing women, men, and children together through community workshops and public art installations. |

We at SewGreen@Rochester are proud to be collaborating with the 1872 Cafe and Voters' Walk, with Olek and with 200-plus crocheters in the Rochester area for the Rochester edition of this amazing crochet art installation coming to a wall near us by Monday, May 8! We've been crocheting 351 2'x2' squares that will be fitted together into one giant mural honoring one of Rochester's best-known women: Susan B. Anthony. By early next week, this collaborative work will be hung outside for all to enjoy. Check out Olek's Instagram and Facebook pages, Olek's 2016 reel to see some of her recent work, and learn more about this project. (Follow Olek's progress here: @LoveAcrosstheUSA!) |

Love Across the USA also has an Auburn edition, honoring Harriet Tubman, at the Schweinfurth Art Center at 205 Genesee Street in Auburn. Their 32' crocheted mural will be installed this week on the front of the Center, and they will be celebrating the installation on Thursday, May 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. In Auburn, over 150 community volunteers crocheted 2'x2' squares for the mural. They also helped Rochester crocheters out with some of our squares! Many thanks to every one of the dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who participated in this community project! Watch SewGreen@Rochester's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds for news about participating in and celebrating the installation of the Rochester edition. |
