Nurture your second brain!

8 November 2017

Gut related issues are on the rise and for many people these problems can be chronic.  Read on for information on how beneficial massage can be if you are plagued with IBS or other gastrointestinal problems.

Focus on... regular massage for good digestion

Recent research has shown that massage can help your gastrointestinal health.  The gut is now commonly referred to as the “second brain” because of how your gastrointestinal symptoms affect your mood and thought processes.

The neurotransmitters and chemical byproducts your gut bacteria produced by the gut also affect your appetite and body's ability to lose weight.

Knowing that your gut plays an even more important role in your overall health means you should take better care for it. Eating a balanced, healthy diet of vegetables and proteins helps keep your gut microbiota regular. But, did you know massage therapy can also better your gut health?

Researchers found that recurrent abdominal pain and encopresis were alleviated with massage therapy.  Research also showed that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms can be alleviated with massage therapy.

Here are two massage approaches that I offer that can be beneficial:
 - Swedish massage. This massage style utilizes five different strokes to therapeutically ease your body. It's especially effective for joint stiffness and lower back pain.
 - Deep tissue massage. This massage style utilizes heavy finger pressure and slower, firm strokes to reach your deeper tissues. This style is one of the best for increasing your circulation.

Take better care of your gut because scientists are finding out it's becoming more and more important to your overall health, affecting pretty much all your organ systems. Try massage therapy if you're experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms – it also helps boost your circulation and alleviate pain.

BOOK NOW

I am delighted to have been featured in our lcoal paper the 'Hayling Islander' this month.  It is a lovely article and I am so proud to have been featured.

This kind of exposure is invaluable to a small business such as mine with no high street presence.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped me out and about (usually walking Tess!) who us complimented me on the article and in particular to Helen at Seaside Florist, on Hayling, who put the feature together for me.

I haven't said it for a while and it can never be said enough.  Thank you to all my lovely clients who book in with me, who engage with my social media posting, who read my newsletters and those who keep coming back and who recommend me to friends, family members and colleagues. Your business, your loyalty and the fact you care means so much. I love the time I spend with my clients in my cosy little therapy room on Hayling Island. We gossip. We chat. We laugh. Sometimes we cry together.

For the hour or more that you are with me in that room it is your safe space where you can explore your feelings without judgement.  So make sure you get your next appointment in the diary soon. I look forward to seeing you!

Focus on... homeopathy - what is it?

As well as a massage therapist, I am also a degree-qualified homeopath.  But what is homeopathy?  It is a system of healing that treats you as an individual, taking account not only of your presenting symptoms but also all your little idiosyncrasies; those little things that make you who you are.

The homeopathic consultation generally lasts about an hour and this is your opportunity to explore yourself and everthing in your life in a gentle and non-judgemental environment. Remedies are prescribed on what the homeopath deems is upsetting your natural rhythms, allowing your body to heal itself.

Get in touch if you would like to explore homeopathy. I'm based at my home consulting room on Hayling Island and also offer consultations by Skype for those of you further afield.

And finally.... remember that I am on retreat at the end of next week.

So do get in touch super quick to get your session boooked in, as I will have slightly less availability than usual for the week.

And although I will be working at the retreat I will also be participating in gorgeous Vinyasa yoga sessions and I am sure I will arrive home very, very chilled.

I am also already taking bookings for December, and yes... even for January.  The 2018 diary is seeing action already!

Give me a call or respond to this newsletter to get your sessions in the diary.

Keep in touch!
