Message from the Chairman |

Wrestle with it…and become stronger |
I learn from our neighborhood “Town Halls.” We host 6-8 town hall meetings per month at various locations around the county (go to www.buncombegop.com). The audience’s questions often test my personal knowledge and beliefs. Often, I find I must go back and reread a certain subject – to check my information, my facts, and my understanding. This process |
exposes any of my assumptions. Was I misinformed? I like the challenge – it’s healthy! |
The Danger of Disinformation What isn’t healthy is disinformation. Britannica defines the distinction between misinformation and disinformation: Misinformation is the inadvertent spread of false information without intent to harm, while disinformation is false information designed to mislead others and is deliberately spread with the intent to confuse fact and fiction. |
Combating Mis- and Disinformation Identifying and combating the spread of misinformation and disinformation is a major challenge. |
For example, a claim often heard today is that America was founded on slavery. No, America was founded on religious freedom. School curriculums designed to deliberately spread a false narrative is disinformation meant to confuse rather than to educate our children. In today’s schools, one might ask if we are teaching Socialism or if we are teaching about Socialism. There is a difference. |
Join Us in the Challenge Let’s welcome the challenge of testing our knowledge and understanding of today’s critical topics. Come share your thoughts and ideas at our “Neighborhood Town Halls” to hear about these critical issues and what the BCGOP is doing to address them. Also, meet our candidates and hear their ideas for representing us going forward. |

Bring a Friend! We hope to see you there…and bring a friend! |

Relive the Magic of the Drive-In! |
Join Us for a Nostalgic Movie Night! Remember when the family would jump into the station wagon (with kids in pajamas) and head to the drive-in? Or, you and your best girl would snuggle and sort of watch the movie? Or, you would pile your friends into the car and all head out for a fun night at the drive-in? Well, that time is here! Join us on June 8th in the BCGOP parking lot (by Sam's Club) starting at 7:00 p.m. Grab burgers, dogs, popcorn, etc., at our food trucks. Get a chance to meet the local grassroots conservative candidates running for office. They will come to your car and talk with you if you like! Young Republicans will be the carhops.
The movie will start around 8:00/8:30, depending on how dark it gets so everyone can see the movie on a 30ft screen. The first movie is BACK TO THE FUTURE. Proceeds will be split between FIXBUNCOMBE, Young Republicans, and the BCGOP. Bring your family and friends, kick back and have fun. Don't forget to dress the part - no DA's allowed! |

Grassroots Meets with County Commissioners: |
Four concerned citizens met with Al Whiteside and Terri Wells to discuss Reparations. Issues raised included: |
Why was this initiative never approved via vote by local citizens? The perception is that this is a creation of the City Council/County Commissioners on its own starting in 2020. Why is there no taxpayer representation and review (e. g., committee) providing independent review of the Reparations Commission's philosophy, rationale, and proposals for reasonableness and fairness? Taxpayers clearly stand to be “harmed” by the incremental effects of costs of the proposals highlighted in the March 18, 2024 meeting. Will the final cost of proposals of the Reparations Commission be calculated and disclosed to the public and put to vote? There is a sense of "taxation without representation" happening such that citizens in the County will be paying for community reinvestment in the City. This is clearly unfair and should be reevaluated by the City and County.
If you would like more information or to be included, contact the BCGOP office and leave your contact information. (828) 253-5800. |

The Golden Rule is who we are. Leicester Hwy has several Adopt-A-Highway signs sponsored by the Democrats. They are being vandalized – no bueno. Let's do the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" thing and be the standard for our community. (That said, there are ways for friendly competition, and I'd love to speak with you). Call our office and leave a message for Doug Brown, the Chairman (828) 253-5800. |
