NEWS FROM VISIONEERS

July 2017

Dear friends and members of VISIONEERS,

We have lots of new information to report: learn more about the school building project in Limón 2000,

a yummy fundraising campaign, an upcoming music workshop and many more great events that we have planned for you...

Volunteer work in Costa Rica.

¡No entiendo! – Patrick’s First Weeks.

Our weltwärts-volunteer Patrick tells us in his blog article about his first weeks in Costa Rica. He reports on his initial situation of not having understood anything or anybody and how he has already found another home in Limón 2000.

Update: School Building Project in Limón 2000.

Slowly but surely we have been seeing work done in the school building project in Limón 2000. The trenches have been dug out, equipped with tubes, and filled up with concrete. At the back of the construction site a ground foundation has been created. As the foundation had to be installed on a slope, an iron construction needed to be added. Currently the walls are being built with the help of some young people from Limón 2000.

German Cake Sale at Hábitat para la Humanidad.

Our weltwärts-volunteer Henrik has been supported in his fundraising campaign by our two interns Linda and Maria. The three of them have baked German apple cake which they have then sold at our partner organisation Hábitat para la Humanidad. They managed to raise 80 Euros. We would like to thank the three of them for their engagement. If you also wish to support Henrik’s project, you have the opportunity to do so below.

Many thanks to...

Plista.

We would like to express our gratitude to Plista for a productive day full of action. Some of our team diligently painted our new premises. The others, together with our mentees, played indoor volleyball and had a picnic. We are looking forward to working on future projects with Plista.

Zalando.

A big thank you to Zalando. Through their upcycling workshop, Zalando employees have made our new patio and workshop furniture. We will now be able to enjoy many hours on our well-equipped patio for which we extend to you a warm thank you.

Mentoring Farewell Dinner.

On July 3, the Mentoring Farewell Dinner took place in which we wanted to thank our mentors for their active involvement. For one year the mentors have accompanied the individual development of their mentees. At an Arabic dinner, we shared stories of all the events from the past year. We would like to once again express our thanks for a wonderful evening and to everyone who was there.

We are Seeking.

For our new VISIONEERS space we are looking for the items mentioned below. Should you have any of these things available at home to donate, please write to us at: info@visioneers.berlin.

- a radio

- two to three armchairs (we would also be very happy with older armchairs)

- white paint

- lamps for our office

We are always glad to receive donations and want to thank you for your kind support.

For our new FSJ-volunteer Lucy we are looking for a host family in Berlin from October 2017 for 6-12 months. For more information, please get in touch with us: info@visioneers.berlin.

Upcoming events.

Homework Club Always on Fridays.

Every Friday from 3pm until 5pm VISIONEERS offers a free homework club to young refugees. We offer tutoring in German, English, as well as other school subjects and we welcome everyone who wishes to come. If you wish to support the homework club on a voluntary basis, please write an e-mail to: info@visioneers.berlin.

Music Workshop.

Within the scope of our interreligious pilot workshop we invite you, young and old, on Thursday July 20 to a music workshop with Heartbeat. The music workshop takes place on our premises.

Heartbeat brings together young Israelis and Palestinians and creates the opportunity for social change, respect, and trust. It offers a non-violent tool of self-articulation. The voice of music influences the world of the music group Heartbeat. They ask questions and look for solutions to problems such as violence and inequality – for the sake of a secure equal future.

VISIONEERS English Summer Camp.

From July 31 to August 3, the VISIONEERS English Summer Camp will take place in the Haus am See in Gussow (in Brandenburg). The English Summer Camp is already fully booked.

We look forward to the development of our VISIONEERS projects locally and abroad and are excited about what we will have to report in the next month. We wish you many beautiful summer moments.
