Looking for fun things to do with kids in the St. Petersburg area this week? Here are some of the exciting events featured in our weekly schedule and on our calendar.

Monday, January 2

 

Happy New Year! Today is the last day of Winter Break for Pinellas County Schools. Check out Practically Pikasso's Winter Break Camp for kids ages 3 to 12 if you're in need of child care for the day. The art studio offers full-day, half-day and before and after care options. 

 

Tuesday, January 3

 

While the big kids return to school today, take the little ones to Mommy and Me Yoga at Gulfport Public Library starting at 10:15am. This class is intended for caregivers and babies ages six weeks to 18 months. Story times also resume at St. Petersburg Public Libraries today. Head to Johnson Community Library at 10:15am for S.P.A.R.K. Pre-Readers and North Community Library at 6:30pm for S.P.A.R.K. Family Story Time.

Wednesday, January 4

 

Are you in need of a new car seat? Register for a free Car Seat Safety Class taught by a nationally certified child passenger safety technician at All Children's Hospital beginning at 9:30am. The program offers car seats at a reduced price for those who meet criteria. Registration is required. For preschool music fun, try Music in Motion at Barbara S. Ponce Public Library at 11am.

Thursday, January 5

 

Wiggle, Giggle and Sing! at Seminole Community Library at 10am where kids five and under can enjoy 30 minutes of free play followed by 30 minutes of musical and movement activities. After school, children ages 6 to 12 are invited to Largo Public Library's weekly STEAM workshop, Tinker Lab. This week's theme is Rock into the New Year.

Friday, January 6

 

Introduce snow to your Florida kids at Pre-K Story Time at Gulf Beaches Public Library. This snow- and snowman-themed program begins at 10:30am. Don't forget that Friday night is Teen Night at Astro Skate! Cost is $8 and the event is recommended for ages 10 to 14.

Saturday, January 7

 

It's a busy Saturday at Boyd Hill! From 8:30am until 11:30am, kids in fourth through eighth grades can attend St. Petersburg Audubon Society's free monthly camp, Navigating Nature. This month's theme is Raptors on the Move. Registration is required. At 10am, kids ages 4 to 10 can follow clues and locate geocaches in a Treasure Hunt. Cost is $10. End the day with a Family Night Hike to learn all about opossums. Cost is $5 for all ages.

Sunday, January 8

 

Great Explorations will open early for Great Connections, a sensory-friendly event for special needs children and their families.The museum will be closed to the public from 10am until noon and will offer discounted admission, modified lights and sounds and a "cool-down" room. Want to catch a free movie? Hook will be playing on the lawn of the MFA at dark. Get there early for music, food trucks and trivia!
