Puppet Camp Success!

Many thanks to SewGreen@Rochester board member and 19th Ward resident, Tom Bohrer (aka The Puppet Man) who was our fearless leader for the first Puppet Camp at the shop during February school break. We had 6 campers who completed puppets, each a unique and personal creation. It was fun to watch as a sketch transformed into a character with its own movement and voice!

@ the Arnett Library

SewGreen@Rochester was invited to put together a family friendly event for the Arnett Library. For this event on Wednesday, February 17th, Georgia Carney featured our recycled cardboard weaving looms. At least eight children (it was hard to keep count!) participated, enjoying learning to thread a needle, choosing yarn colors on the boards, and weaving with and showing their progress as threads grew into fabric. A second quick project was tying together fringed panels of fleece to create scarves. This easy project helps children learn to tie square knots alongside the joy of choosing which colors and patterns of fleece to put together.

@ RCSD School #29

On Friday, February 26th, SewGreen@Rochester’s Georgia Carney and Jennifer Quick will take a couple of sewing machines and a large basket of cotton squares to School #29 to introduce children to machine sewing, and to spread the word about our programs and camps in this neighborhood school. Past events have taught us that boys enjoy learning about this power tool as much as girls do! We hope to see some of these students again at our upcoming Superhero Camp, March 28 - 30.
