WEEK 20 NEWSLETTER

June 05 - 09

Goat Day

On Tuesday students shared in Goat Day - we made observations of goat behavior, learned about the unique biology of goats including about lactation, watched a milking demonstration and had time to hold the babies.  For detailed info click here.

Student Led Conference Info.

Students have prepared a collage that addresses one of the following prompts:

  1. What do you feel are the key areas in your life that contribute to your overall health and happiness?
  2. What actions/behaviors do you aspire to in order to live a happier and/or healthier life?

Students worked on their collage in Photoshop and were asked to turn their final image in to Google Classroom on Friday.  Unfortunately, since we had an internet outage that prevented some students from finishing and/or turning in their assignment, I am encouraging these students to share their work in progress.

For details on this assignment click here.

Since I work with all 7th grade students, not just one team, I can not be available to join the team team teachers in each students' end of year Student Led Conference - so, in addition to visiting with your team teachers, students will also visit with me in our Plugged/Unplugged space for a few minutes to discuss their evolving views on health and happiness.

You are welcome to visit with me either before or after your scheduled time with your team - just make sure you make your appointment time with your team so teachers can honor other families appointment times.

See your scheduled time below.

Finishing the Film

We finished That Sugar Film, and wrapped up our unit on the role sugar plays on our health.  We considered the impact that focusing on high quality foods could have on our healths, and considered the problems that arise from focusing on reducing quantity (i.e. counting calories).  See the details here.

A Semester In Review

I had a lot of plans and ideas at the start of this semester that I had hoped to implement to help students build happier and healthier lives - not all of them were realized, but many were.

I have put together a full list of all of the activities and lessons we completed this semester so you can get an overview of how we spent our time.  Each list item links to a more detailed blog entry in case you want to learn more about the activity.
