Blurb

Rachel Brenner is sworn off men, but David wants marriage.  How can she resist the power of his love?

Rachel is not interested in another relationship, happily divorced, she’s a stronger woman and does not want a repeat of the life she left behind, But David wants more—he is irresistible to her, making Rachel question her faith and her carefully ordered emotions.  They are good friends, so why complicate things?

David wants a wife and Rachel is the answer to his prayers, however, after suffering the pain of his ex-wife’s betrayal, he doubts he will ever trust again. But he soon discovers that friendship is not enough. He is an impatient man, used to getting what he wants and he won’t ever let her go.

Excerpt From When Two Love As One

She returned her gaze to his. “What did the Holy Spirit tell you about me…about us?”

David averted his eyes, taken aback by her question. What could he say without revealing what the Holy Spirit had told him?

“You want more than just friendship, don’t you?” she asked, pressing him.

He returned his gaze to hers. He wanted a whole lot more than he’d realised—the attraction between them was too strong. “Yes.”

Rachel guessed as much. She could feel it. “David…I can’t be anything more than your friend.” Her voice was gentle; she didn’t want to hurt his feelings. “I’m sorry.” She felt a nudge inside her from the Holy Spirit. She ignored it.

“Why can’t we be more than that? We are very much attracted to each other, there is no denying that, and you are a very beautiful woman, Rachel.”

His eyes darkened and became intense, making it difficult to keep eye contact. Her heart began to pound under the heat of his gaze, and she looked away for a moment, glancing around the busy restaurant at the other couples enjoying romantic interludes, and she wanted to keep well away from anything near romance. Yes, the attraction was strong, but it wasn’t something she would entertain or consider. “Because I’m not looking for a relationship right now.”

“When will you be?”

She laughed. “Never!”

He raised a brow, but did not join in with her laughter.

Her smile faded and she sighed. He was clearly irked by her response, hence the reason why she did not encourage friendships with men. It always resulted in her letting them down, their egos so bruised that she never saw them again. It was a shame, because she really liked David and knew she could learn a lot from him. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to make light of your interest in me. You’re a very attractive man. I’m sure there are many women out there who would want your attention.”

“Ahh, but they’re not you, Rachel.”

“Oh, I’m nothing special, believe me. I already have a failed marriage under my belt and have no intention of ever going down that road again.” She paused for a moment. “And you strike me as a man who does not have casual relationships.”

“And you do?”

She chuckled. “I don’t have those either!” She looked over at him guiltily, as he clearly did not see the humorous side of this and wanted her to take him seriously. “Look, David, I don’t want there to be any misconceptions between us, so I’ll be as honest with you as I can.” She paused, lifting her glass to sip her water. “I had a very unhappy marriage—nineteen long years. I did the right thing as a Christian woman and remained in a loveless marriage, feeling trapped and suffocated. When we got divorced, I was so relieved, happy for the first time in years. I’m free and at peace, and I want to stay this way.” She held his gaze, ensuring he clearly understood her. “I’m damaged goods. I’m very much scarred. I could never trust you.”
