uBe gets loungy with you

uBe Art is mixing it up for the summer!

In July, artist Rebecca Meredith will be embracing the space. We are turning the reigns over to her creative hands for the entire month - featuring her new series, Constellation, weekend gatherings and a ceiling installation. She has fun stuff in store for you!

For August, uBe is busy hammering out a Summer Nights theme - merging art and lounge into a month of being social with art. Forget the daytime! Cocktail hour and art is where it's at this summer.

September we launch into our next round of juried exhibitions!

Artists aren't really people. I'm actually 40 per cent papier mache.

-Steven Patrick Morrissey

Drive-by interviews are back! Take a seat and get comfortable with this week's Q&A featuring 2 more artists from our current exhibition, In My Absence.

Miss last weeks interviews? No problem. Just scroll through uBe blog.

Tina Erickson - My Book About Me

What led you to art?
When I was 5 years old, I had a book titled “My Book About Me”. Within it was the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  I enthusiastically filled in the blank with one word, ARTIST.

Brian Wilson- Curiosity About Absolutely Everything

What are you presently inspired by?

I am influenced by eastern philosophy and metaphysics, so I am really trying to learn to be in the moment and try to clear my mind of the cacophony of thoughts running around and just play in a perfectly clear, childlike Zen manner when I am creating.

SPOTLIGHT

Helen of Troy by Karen Thomas

This series on portraiture I have been exploring the juxtaposition of traditional portraiture with awkward less than flattering portraits of adolescent girls. Elements such as accessories and backgrounds associated with classical european portraiture are combined with surrealism and humor.

Portrait of My Mother as a Young Woman

by Ellen Schinderman

I use fiber art as a way of seeing things anew through thread.  The child of an antiques dealer I have always been surrounded by the decorative and home arts, and it makes sense to me to combine the intent of artistic statement with the beauty and tradition that preceded it.  As an artist and feminist, the reclaiming of needle and thread fascinates me.

Call For Artists

Still Life: Past, Present and Future

Artists have broadened the traditionally narrow definition of still life painting through the use of new media and new subject matter. They have extended the genre beyond the fruit-and-flower paintings, making art of commercially available items such as Claes Oldenburg’s Tea Bag, Jim Dine’s Bathrobe & Andy Warhol’s Campbell's Soup Cans since the 1960s.
