Artists aren't really people. I'm actually 40 per cent papier mache. -Steven Patrick Morrissey |

Drive-by interviews are back to keep you company on your commute home . . . or wild ventures into the city night. Take a seat and get comfortable with a few of the artists from our current exhibition, In My Absence. |

Stratton McCrady - Acting Out What are you presently inspired by? "My practice alternates between a fiercely passionate portrait project studying the motivations and feelings surrounding contemporary Burlesque performance, and some series of very personal still life work. I’m inspired by light and color, and how these can communicate emotion."

Charity Henderson - the psychology of concealment What does your "day job" mean to you? "I work with individuals with mild to moderate dementia as a day job. It is in turns touching, frustrating, and heartbreaking. I am always moved by the individuals who are still aware of the implications of the disease and yet are determined to live life to the fullest even as their minds fade." | | |

Beulah, Cecile, Marie from Feminine Side Series by Chuck Drumm "The Feminine Side Series is a sequence of maternal generational portraits. Each portrait is matched with a self-help personality quiz such as those found in popular magazines. The artist's mixed media artwork examines aspects of identity and gender." |

|
Seven Stages of Death by Joan Ryan "The portrait focuses on the impact of the gaze and concepts of identity. The individual in the work is looking directly and intently at the viewer asking to be "seen". The cropping of the face, and the gaze of the sitter positions the viewer to look directly into the eyes. The sitter asks to be seen, to be acknowledged, and realized." |
