Take Advantage of OPEN LESSON DAYS!

What is an OPEN LESSON DAY?

For those who do not know, this is a new concept I am offering:   An open day for visitors to spectate lessons and training.

Why?

I receive regular requests from riders who would like to come visit to see the facilities, to chat or have questions, to watch a lesson, to see training etc.  Instead of making separate appointments for each, it might be better to have regular days set out for this purpose.

The benefits for my students/clients who book lessons

They can share with each other and pick up useful tips by watching other sessions. It offers the opportunity to meet others on a similar journey. They can make new contacts and broaden their perspectives.

The benefits for spectators

Like-minded riders can get together here to view, discuss, share stories and ask questions. They have the opportunity to see what is happening here, without commitment. There is much that can be learnt by observing.  Questions are always welcome here!

Thank you to the riders/owners and spectators who attended our 1st "open lesson day"!

Tweet had 2 points on the agenda for her lesson:

1) managing correct canter strike off from the ground as well as ridden

2) fine tuning of her seat

----

Tweet attended the Alexander Technique Clinic with Desiree Du Pisanie, in October 2015, and now needed eyes to check that she was still on the right track with her seat and lower back, a few months later.

A follow-up clinic is being planned for March 2016

The first lesson of the day

started off with the theory, and clarification, of how correct canter strikeoff is attained according to the German handbook of riding (outside leg behind/inside leg on the girth area, to activate first stride of canter, using the outside hind leg).

Thereafter, I explained an alternative way of attaining the correct lead in canter.

During the practical part of the lesson we worked on how to go about encouraging the horse to take the correct lead on the lunge.

To end off, we proceeded to assess and re-focus the rider's body alignment and balance from the saddle, as a refresher and follow-up on the Alexander Technique Clinic Tweet attended.

The second lesson of the day

was with Anne and her new, young, 18hh Irish Sport Horse, Obelix. The goal set for this lesson was settling Obelix in his new work and helping Anne consolidate her new style of thinking and riding.

Anne started having lessons at Xenophon at the end of July 2015.

With Anne's new horse, Obelix, she is now practising to apply what she's been learning during the past months.

The third lesson of the day

was with Joanne and Caradoc. The goal of this lesson was to use exercises to encourage Caradoc to use her core muscles.

We started off with walking over a raised pole, to encourage lift. This was used as a warm-up exercise, walking over the pole to contract her core muscles without the rider on board. As this is hard work, Caradoc tried to avoid the exercise by jumping the pole, rather than walking over. During the lesson, the exercise was repeated under saddle in walk, in between ridden trot and canter work.

 A Demonstration session

with Helena's beautiful chestnut mare, Belle

followed after the 3 lessons

The last training session for the day

was with Lazar
