The last few months have been busy for the Scout Group, and have certainly flown by. The new year started with a freshly decorated main hall and saw 4 new Adults and 2 new Young Leaders joining our Leadership Team.
We kicked off with a Funday in September, and thanks to finally being graced with some sunny weather we had a brilliant turn out of family, friends, neighbours and members of the local community who took part in various games and stalls. As well as having a raffle, tuck shop, bar, ice cream parlour and bowling alley, we were also lucky enough to have Avon and Somerset police attend with a police van, a reptile show thanks to RSW and visits from Olaf and Peppa Pig! A brilliant time was had by all, and the money raised went to sending 40 Shoe Boxes oversees as part of “Operation Christmas Child”.
Next, saw Beavers, Cubs and Scouts attend JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) – a county ran event. Everyone that attended took part in different activities, to sign off a “passport” that earnt them a special JOTI badge.
The next activity saw Leaders and children alike dressed in Halloween Costumes to take part in a Halloween themed camp. The camp was packed with themed activities, games and a bird of prey experience talk. The camp including everything from pumpkin carving, face painting, cooking, crafts, disco and an amazing Halloween Themed Buffett (Thanks Emma!) Following this, we had the best turn out to date for Rememberance Day Parade in November, which saw Beavers, Cubs and Scouts visit St Fagans before having a sleepover at the HQ. With an amazing 63 in attendance for the parade, it was a moment that made the Leadership Team extremely proud and was a reminder to us all why we volunteer to be part of the Scouting movement.
More recently we raised £820 Bag Packing at Asda Whitchurch which will help towards the cost of camps and trips over the coming year for all sections. An amazing total for only 4 hours of bag packing.
Finally, we ended the term with our Annual Christmas Concert which saw 150 parents, friends, Beaver, Cubs, Scout and Leaders sing carols and join in with festive to end 2015. A lovely way to end the Year. With all those that have helped make the last few months so memorable and successful coming together for an evening of entertainment.
Section Nights have seen guide dog and hearing dog talks, fire station visits, crafts, games, cooking, badge work, a joint bonfire evening with messy games and firework display, indoor climbing and loads of fun! The group is continually growing, with all 3 sections having ever increasing numbers.
All 3 sections have started to working towards the new Million Hands Scout initiative as well as earning newly launched badges. There are lots of exciting things in store for the coming months, so watch this space! A massive thank you to everyone that has made the last few months so enjoyable and successful – the Leaders, Young Leaders, Parents, Friends and Committee Members who work so hard to make our Group what it is. A thank you also to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who always make all the hard work worth it! 2016 will be action packed, and will continue to bring exciting things to the group.
To name a few upcoming events we have a Beaver/Cub Sleepover and Scout Survival Camp in February and our annual PGL trip in April. Beavers will return on Monday 11th, Cubs on Wednesday 13th and Scouts on Thursday 12th January.
And new section programmes will be uploaded to our website; along with an email in the new year.
