Registration & Welcome 44th IVC delegates are invited to pick-up their name badges and totebags from the registration table from 9am - 12pm on September 1st. We will have a brief informal welcome from our Congress Personnel in St Andrew's on The Terrace and the head to the Pipitea Marae for the pōwhiri. Viola Congress delegates will be led by the Mayor of Wellington, Justin Lester and the President of the International Viola Society, Carlos Maria Solare. Their speeches will be followed by waiata sung by Renée Maurice. After the formalities have concluded the Deseret Quartet from Brigham Young University will perform Ethan Wickman’s Namasté as a musical offering to the Pipitea Marae. If you require any assistance, please contact Elyse directly (022 024 0353). Other Congress Personnel contact information can be found by clicking the link below. |

Notes for presenters during the Congress: Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your lecture/lecture recital. Congress Interns will be sure the presentation before yours (if there is one) ends on time. You may enter to set-up as soon as the previous presentation is finished, if applicable. Lectures and Lecture Recitals are all either 50 or 25 minutes in length. Please plan your presentation accordingly as Congress Interns will be keeping track of time and give you a 10 minute warning (unless otherwise discussed with your assigned intern). We suggest bringing multiple versions of your presentation (e.g. laptop, USB, email). Note for performers during the Congress: Please check in with our Stage Manager, Hannah Neman (hannah.neman@yahoo.com), upon arriving to your performance venue for your soundcheck. Feel free to email her in advance with any stage concerns or needs. |

The time difference in New Zealand can be a bit daunting if you are coming from other parts of the world! Our Congress Manager, Elyse, is originally from the USA and has taken the long-haul flight a few times - her advice is to make sure you stay hydrated and try to sleep when it is bedtime in NZ on the plane so as to make the adjustment a bit easier on your body. There are jetlag/hydration drinks you can buy in the aiport too, Elyse has used 1Above before and found it to be very helpful for those long flights. |

When you arrive at Wellington Airport, there are a few options for transport to your accommodation: Airport Bus, Combined Taxis, Capital Taxis, Green Cab, or Kiwi Cab. Kiwi Cab is the most affordable (Phone number: 04 389 9999). Wellington has Uber and Zoomy (more details below), too! If you experience any difficulties upon arrival, please feel free to ring Elyse for assistance: 022 024 0353. |

Getting Around Wellington |
|
|
Wellington has great public transport! Luckily all of our discounted accommodation is located very close to bus stops or the Wellington Cable Car. Please find the Metlink website below where you can plan your public transport journey. Wellington has Uber, as well - so if you would prefer to use that, just download the app! Another option in Wellington is Zoomy, Uber's NZ competition. Zoomy is a New Zealand based company and offers the same service as Uber but without price surges. Please note: as there are less drivers for Zoomy, it is best to give yourself a few extra minutes if you decide to order a Zoomy. Most, if not all, Zoomy drivers also drive for Uber. Please note: Wellington has many hills and Victoria University of Wellington is situated on a hill. If you are unsure of a walking route to take, please ask our Congress Personnel as we would be happy to show you the best way to get to where you need to go! As Elyse learned the hard way, sometimes Google Maps does not give you the best walking route in Wellington and instead tells you the best way to get to your important meeting is to walk up the steepest hill in town..... |

Our main venues are Victoria University of Wellington, VUW New Zealand School of Music, and St Andrew's on The Terrace. For a quick Google Map guide of our venues, please see the link below. |

|
We have made a few venue and event time changes - please double check your assigned time and location as it may have changed. Elyse has also just added the Viola Potpourri concert soundchecks to the schedule, be sure to double check these as well! |

Have you created your free profile and started to plan your itinerary? Elyse has added some events to the admin schedule - check it out here. Our online schedule will remain live and available after the Congress. If there is any information you would like to add to your profile or presentation, please send a message to IVCWgtn2017@gmail.com. |

Join us at Parliament on September 4th from 6:30pm for the 44th IVC Gala Dinner - there are still some seats available! The final event of the viola congress is a banquet dinner at Parliament hosted by the Honorable Chris Finlayson (Attorney General), a passionate supporter of the arts and especially music. This is a rare opportunity that can only occur at the invitation of a Member of Parliament. It gives a glimpse of the inside of Parliament. The Grand Hall is a magnificent room and the catering is exquisite. The cost of $90 is well worth it and it includes a selection of New Zealand’s fine wines. Bookings must be registered by one week before for catering purposes. Like the Powhiri, this is not to be missed. There is a maximum number allowed so book soon to avoid disappointment. Register online or by emailing Becky Grenfell (becky@paardekooper.nz). |
