 We are so proud of all of our CFK Athletes! This month, we are very pleased to feature and introduce Julie!

In general, what is your athletic background?

Honestly, not much prior to CrossFit. I gave all of my athletic genes to my brother and sister...

I did play volleyball and ran track through grade school. However, I achieved the thunder thighs through 14 years of waitressing 

 

How did you learn about CrossFit Kalamazoo? 

My sister forced me to try a class. She googled gyms and CFK was the closest to my house so I reluctantly gave it a shot (and am SO glad I did!)
 

How has CrossFit Kalamazoo changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? Sheesh, where do I begin! I went from chubby to fit! I'm healthier, faster and stronger than ever before. CF lead to healthier eating habits, which led to Whole30, which led to a paleo lifestyle and nightly ROMWOD. All of this has made me a better role model to my family. We all eat so healthy and are so active! Oh...I was also neverrrrrr a morning person and look at me now! 
 

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through CrossFit Kalamazoo: 

Well I would sure like to get a bar muscle up now that Craig has gotten one (joking! Sort of...)! Also HSPU, butterfly pull-ups and 1st place at Festivus with my partner Taylor, aka "Peanut"

 

What do you like most about CrossFit Kalamazoo? 

Tim's face in the morning when we know we're annoying the crap out of him at the crack of dawn with our shenanigans. And of course the community and my CF BFFs!

 

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? 

Back squats, front squats, air squats, here a squat, there a squat, everywhere a squat squat

 

 

 

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? 

Anyone who workouts with me knows I despise anything overhead

 

What are you currently doing to try to improve your diet? 

I follow a pretty good paleo (and cupcakes) diet and am currently on my 4th round of Whole30 (thanks to Fritz for convincing me to do my first round last year!)

 

Favorite movie: No favorite, but some classics I could watch a zillion times: Office Space, Super Troopers, My Cousin Vinny, Shawshank (my tv is usually playing cartoons so it's been awhile...)

 

Favorite and/or current book: Current - Leadership 101
 

Favorite music genre/artist: classic rock and old school rap 

 

Achievements you’d like to highlight within your life: I was the first person in my entire (and huge) family to go to and graduate from college. I fully funded my education by working full time while taking on a full time class schedule at WMU. I earned my Bachelors of Science and Health Services and a Minor in Holistic Health Care. 
 

My overall greatest achievement is having met my super duper awesome and amazing husband and having two of the coolest and cutest kids on the planet!

 

List a few things we don’t know about you: I can sing "Head shoulders knees and toes" in three languages (including English). 
 

I learned in elementary school that the ability to roll your tongue is hereditary. My parents could do it, so I practiced in the mirror foreverrrrr until I was finally able to, too. Now I can roll it, fold it in half and make a 3 leaf clover out of it :)

 

I have a dang good Elvis lip and can wiggle my ears ever so slightly if I concentrate hard enough. My kids think I'm pretty cool...


In 10 words or less, what does CF mean to you?

Strength, health, teamwork, community, lifestyle, pushing limits

On-Ramp Classes

Our On-Ramp class provides coaching in a smaller group setting and is mandatory for those who are new to CrossFit. This class is programmed to teach you the movements, techniques and lingo as we want to ensure you have a good foundation built before you jump into our regular WOD!  

 

Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday at 8:00 p.m (core time). Please call if this time doesn't work for you as other times may be available at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm (depending on Coach availability).

 

The duration is 1 hour and up to 5 classes are scheduled over a 2 week period (plus 2 optional Saturday WODS).

Try A Class - Offered Every Saturday! 

Ready to check CFK out? You can  "Try A Class"  every Saturday at 10am and join us in our Partner WOD!   

 

When you join us for the first time, you will be partnered with a CFK Athlete and you will be encouraged to do it at your pace.  This is a great opportunity to try out a workout at our facility, visit with our CFK community and be a part of the Community that makes CrossFit Kalamazoo so great!  

 

The cost to join this class is $10 (limited to newbies to CrossFit and does not apply to experienced CrossFitters dropping in).  If you sign up for our On-Ramp class, the $10 intro fee will be applied to the cost of the On-Ramp class. 

 

Reservations are required so please call 269-251-1677 or send an email to reserve a spot.  Since class starts on the hour, please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, complete a waiver and stretch.
