NEWS FROM VISIONEERS

August 2017

Dear friends and members of VISIONEERS,

There’s once more many new developments to report on: learn more about the music workshop with HEARTBEAT, the VISIONEERS English Summer Camp, the school construction project in Limón 2000 and the many other great projects in Costa Rica.

Music workshop with HEARTBEAT.

On Thursday, July 20, the music group HEARTBEAT led a music workshop in our VISIONEERS office. HEARTBEAT brought Israeli and Palestinian young people together and showed that music has no boundaries and connects people. The young people defied odds and made music as a group. Many thanks, it was for us a great pleasure.

Volunteer work in Costa Rica.

San José.

Our weltwärts-volunteer Henrik discusses his assignments at Hábitat para la Humanidad and his everyday life in Costa Rica’s capital city. In his free time, the displayed football team from the district of Pavas plays an important role.

Limón 2000.

Football connects.

Football brings people together, because in sport the color of one’s skin, one’s gender and social background are irrelevant. The idea that football supports social connection was observed by our weltwärts-volunteer Isabel. In the following contribution, you can learn more about her everyday life between the construction site, the football field and the school blackboard.

Update: school construction project.

The school construction is making great progress. The walls of the building are plastered on the inside and outside. That aside, the window bars were completed and painted. Pictures from actual events you’ll find here: bit.ly/2wB3VIv.

Since Monday, August 7, a group of volunteers from Germany has been in Limón 2000. With the help of this group, the bathes will be finished. At this stage, we want also to thank the Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken (€5,810) and the Arbeitskreis für Entwicklungspolitik und Selbstbesteuerung (€3,000) for their generous support.

Exchange-Seminar.

From August 1 to August 6, the “Exchange-Seminar” took place for our weltwärts-volunteers in Costa Rica. In focus were topics like intercultural exchange, fundraising, project management and development policy work in addition to evaluations of the projects, experiences and difficulties of our weltwärts-volunteers. On their behalf, we want to cordially thank Don Carlos, Doña Rosario, Maria and Linda for the nice, interesting and memorable seminar days in Heredia.

VISIONEERS English Summer Camp.

From July 31 to August 3, the VISIONEERS English Summer Camp took place in Gussow/Brandenburg in the Haus am See. A team from the United States set up a creative leisure program in the midst of the summer holidays, with which one could learn English while having fun. On offer were, amongst other items, a bike tour in Potsdam, games, an English workshop and swimming. We had a great time together and improved our English collectively. We want to thank the American team as well as all participants for the great time. Thank you, guys!

We are excited about the further development of many VISIONEERS projects in Germany and abroad, and wish you a nice and relaxing August!

Your Laura.
