Important General Membership Dates
It's hard to believe our year is only a couple of months from our year-end celebration! We still have lots of excitement including TSA State, McKamy's 20th Anniversary Celebration, MRC Membership Renewals for 2017-2018 & Recruitment, Planning MRC Family EOY Celebration along with preparing for next year with a new MRBC Board!
Nominating Committee per our Bylaws we need a committee of (3) three members in good standing and (2) alternates to serve as our Nominating Committee for our 2017-2018 McKamy Robotics Booster Club Board of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. We must have all 4 positions filled by May 11th MRBC General Membership Meeting vote to be a club by LISD at McKamy.
- This committee can choose to meet in person or do via phone or electronic communications. The time commitment is minimal but very important :) The current board can not serve on the nominating committee; however outgoing 8th grade parents of members are encouraged, so thank you in advance for volunteering.
- The first thing the committee will do is appoint their Nominating Committee Chair.
- Timeline for nominations and voting by General Membership are below:
- Call out for nominations by Nominating Committee 3/20-3/31 (sent via MRC Newsletter)
- Nominating Committee candidate review, discussion, development of Nominating Slate 3/31-4/5.
- Nominating Committee e-mails or presents in person the 2017-2018 Nominating Slate to the Board and McKamy Advisor at regular 4/5 MRBC Board meeting @ 9am in Robotics Lab.
- MRBC Newsletter to be sent by 4/7 on behalf of Nominating Committee, announcing the 2017-2018 MRBC Board Nominating Slate.
- MRBC Year-End Annual General Membership Meeting including Voting on Nominating Slate on Thursday, May 11th at 6pm. Immediately followed by MRC Family EOY Celebration.

Yes, Maureen and Lisa are graduating this year......it's been a true labor of love for 3 years!! Together with the best fellow Board Members these past 2 years, Parent Mentors, Advisor and School we collectively have lived our MRC mission impacting 182 student members and over a thousand other robotic students, parents and community leaders !!
We promise you this club is rocking with...
- Annually audited 501c3 under PBUSA (Parent Booster USA) with transparent Financials, Minutes, Filings, Tax Exemptions, Board Insurance
- Our own robotics lab now with 2 fields and Mr. Blalack is just through the window and shared door (he went from the smallest room at McKamy to the largest with remodel due to a more than double increase in his electives and exponential growth of the club!)
- Extensive processes, documents and forms have been developed that are easily modifiable to the board make-up and next years VEX challenge.
- MRC website for public, students and special parent access that is engaging and informative
- Dedicated and experienced McKamy Advisor in Mr. Blalack who goes above and beyond VOLUNTEERING his personal time and working closely with the MRBC Board, Parent Mentors and Students. Recognized by his Peers as 2016-2017 McKamy Teacher of the Year!!
- 150% support of McKamy Principal to further develop MRC and it would be hard to find a teacher, administrator or staff that does not only support MRC but shares the good works of MRC and volunteers to help us!
- MRC gmail account the board shares and retains important communications
- Google Drive full of resources that the whole board has access too and when appropriate you can share folders with MRBC and MRC members for projects
- VEX Parts Inventory of over $20,000 and the first ever online parts ordering system developed by Lisa for our teams with a process for ordering and managing overall inventory that is being adopted by others in LISD!
- 2 Visual VEX Parts boards.....yes we too had no idea what anything was when we started!!
- We have been investing in equipment to support administration of the club in the robotics lab (i.e., copier/printer/scanner, files, cabinets, trunks, office supplies)
- Established MS Only Annual VEX Competition with VEX, REC, North Texas Middle Schools.....even at State MS Competitions the teams were buzzing over our tournaments excellence....the entire club makes that happen! We now have 2 years worth of binders with info, maps, processes and resources.
- TSA middle school all round STEM successes in 3 short years that inspires us all! Just read the other newsletter sent on our students TSA Regional final results....WOW!!
- Students learning to collaborate, be accountable, be leaders, develop skills they try/share/learn while designing/building/programming/driving.....receiving the real life lessons of embracing diverse work teams and both the gifts of failure and success, be well rounded (almost all do orchestra, band, athletics, theatre, chess club, student council, outside activities, swim and tennis done at FMHS.... or a combination thereof... in addition to robotics)..................Priceless!!!
