Wellington Filipino Community Choir Serenades on Independence Day

Geo Robrigado

The Wellington Filipino Community Choir (WFCC) serenaded esteemed guests of the Philippine Embassy during the Diplomatic Function at the Te Papa Museum in celebration of the 118th Anniversary of Philippine Independence on 14 June 2016.

The WFCC opened the programme with the singing of the national anthems of the Dominion of New Zealand and the Republic of the Philippines. The national anthems were followed by speeches from His Excellency Jesus Domingo, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines, and Hon. Simon Bridges, New Zealand Minister of Transport and Energy. After the speeches from Ambassador Domingo and Mr. Bridges as well as some toasts, the WFCC returned on stage and serenaded the crowd with their renditions of four Filipino classic songs, namely "Sitsiritsit", "Dandansoy", "Ikaw", and "Bahay Kubo".

After the performance and some photo-ops, the WFCC continued jamming while mingling and networking with the guests.

NOW YOU SEE US!

Geo Robrigado

On 12 June 2016 in the middle of the usual Wellington weather, people flocked to the Lighthouse Cinema in Petone to watch a special screening of "Now You See Me 2". The screening was a fundraising activity of the Bulwagan.

"Now You See Me 2", produced by K/O Paper Products and TIK Films and distributed through Summit Entertainment, is the sequel to the 2013 film of the same name and stars an ensemble cast including Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. The film tells the story of four magicians-in-hiding who were tasked by a Macau-based businessman to perform a heist. Using their magic skills, the group successfully recovers a computer chip, but with devastating consequences.

Around 100 people gathered in Lighthouse Cinema and filled two theatres with moviegoers keen to relax and enjoy a film, whether by themselves or with their loved ones.

Continuously Building The Community - How Can You Help?

Alkansiya

This is a "piggy bank" version in the Philippines that is made out of coconut shell with a hole that will only fit a coin. The concept is to fill it with coins and the Trustees will announce an event to break this "alkansiya". Whatever the total amount of the coins will be donated to the Filipino Community Centre project.

Adopt-a-brick

A number of bricks are offered for adoption, reserved and paid in advance by interested individuals, organizations, businesses, offices and politicians. These bricks are then set aside in a “warehouse bank" that will eventually be used to build the centre.
