Foodland's Annual Give Aloha Community Matching Gifts Program.  

You can make a donation to Hawaii Parkinson Association thru Foodland's Give Aloha program thru September 30.  Customers are invited to make donations of up to $249 to participating Hawaii non-profit organizations at checkout. Donations are accepted at any Foodland, Sack N Save or Foodland Farms checkout. Foodland and the Western Union Foundation will match a portion of each donation. Individuals must use their own Maika'i number to make a donation. Donations made without a Maika'i number will not be matched.

 

How to Donate: At checkout, present your Maika'i card (or provide your number) and inform the cashier that you would like to make a donation to:

If you do not have a Maika'i card/number, you may request to establish one. Your donation will be added to your grocery purchase total. You may donate up to $249 per organization; any portion exceeding $249 will not be matched. The amount you donate and the name of our organization will appear on your receipt. Donations must be payable to Foodland or Sack N Save.

Maddy (Madeline Sofranac) is back and we highly recommend this great class. No date has been set yet to resume PD Exercise classes. We need more participation in order to restart the classes.

  • Big Island, Hilo Support Group ~ Last Friday of every month, 2-4 PM.  Meets at Office of Aging, Hilo: 1055 Kinoole St #101.  Next meeting tomorrow, September 28.   Gather to talk story and introduce new people. Sue Barton will share her experience of having a Skype session with Dr. Laurie Mischley. Afterwards, group will break into care partner and PWP's (People with Parkinson's) groups and share stories and solutions. Partners, please bring a jacket for the "cold" room.

Maui exercise classes are being held by Risa Pascal ~  Tuesday and Thursdays at the same address from 10am to 11:00.  Improve your quality of life, increase your range of motion, increase functional strength and improve balance.  Risa Pascal is trained in my areas, yoga, tai chi, stretching, strength, balance. Exercise is guided to your level of ability.  Donation are accepted.

  • Clinical Trial: Have you recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease?  If so, you may be eligible to participate in a clinical research study evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication for Parkinson disease symptoms. The investigational medication is composed of a combination of two currently approved drugs for Parkinson’s disease in low doses. The study involves taking once-daily study medications and includes 7 visits to the study center during approximately 14 to 18 weeks.  You may qualify to participate in the study if:  1)You were recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, 2)You are between the ages 35 and 80, 3)Have not been taking other Parkinson’s disease medication for more than 4 weeks.  See the flyer below for more information.
