In the spirit of sisterhood and collective upliftment, I am writing to share some travel media related information that recently came my way. I publish this newsletter approximately 3-4 times per year with the goal of informing the African American travel media community about upcoming events, news, calls for submission, residencies and updates on my travel work. Afrocentric Travel News/Info Check out the new movie “Green Book.” It is about a tour of the Deep South in the 1960s by African-American classical pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), a white Italian-American bouncer who served as Shirley's driver and security. The film gets its title from The Negro Motorist Green Book, a mid-20th century guidebook for African-American roadtrippers, written by Victor Hugo Green. Unfortunately, the Green Book is not given adequate recognition or examination in the film. A lost teachable moment.
