Hello! Welcome to the latest newsletter. I hope you have all had a lovely summer. I know it’s not quite over yet but in this Kentish corner of England the summer’s days are numbered! The Suffragette’s Secret On the 13th September I revealed the secret project that I had mentioned in the last newsletter: a short story, featuring Morton Farrier undertaking a case which involved Juliette’s great grandmother! The reviews have been very kind—100% 5* reviews so far! My initial idea had been to make it a Christmas special but, as the writing progressed, I realised that this didn’t quite fit with the story, so it was released as soon as it was finished. Due to the length of the story (29,000 words) it has only been released as an ebook on the Kindle platform (which can be downloaded for free onto most computers / tablets / mobile phones). I hope at some stage to write a collection of short stories, which would include The Suffragette’s Secret and which would be released in both paperback and Kindle. As always, I loved the research stage of writing this story which took me to a variety of places, including The National Archives, The London Museum and The Keep; not to mention several books and online records. Many of the documents, which I found in these repositories, were used in this story, as were several real suffragettes and incidents that they went through. I’ve shared one or two photos of the research on Facebook, but I will add more to the website and Pinterest shortly. The Spyglass File The ebook version of The Spyglass File is currently on special offer on Amazon.co.uk until 30th September for just 99p. So, if you haven’t yet purchased it, now is the time! Click here for a link to purchase After some delay, I am also very pleased to say that The Spyglass File is now available as an audiobook, purchasable from Audible. If you have purchased the Kindle version of the book already you get a massive discount on purchasing the audiobook. In the US you can also take advantage of a 30-day free trial. Having listened to several auditions, I felt that the narrator, Jonathan Ip’s voice fitted the book the best—I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did! Hiding the Past is currently in production and will hopefully be available in the next couple of months. The rest of the series will follow! The next book I’m back at the keyboard with the next instalment in the series! It will be a full-length novel and will hopefully be available early next year. I’m really enjoying writing it and I’m loving the characters in the past narrative! There is also a great storyline for Morton in the pipeline! Stay tuned for more… |

Rootstech After some deliberation, I have decided to take the plunge and have booked to attend next year’s Rootstech. The event is a major event in the genealogy calendar, attracting more than 26,000 entrants to the Salt Lake City venue. I have booked a booth to sign books and talk about my work, so if you are attending, come along and say hello! |

Family History Not many major developments in my genealogical world at the moment. I recently downloaded my raw DNA from Ancestry and then uploaded it (for free) to My Heritage for further analysis and the possibility of finding new matches. The results between Ancestry, MyHeritage and LivingDNA make for interesting reading. Though they all agree that I’m 100% European, the percentage of Great Britishness varies wildly and demonstrates that, while these companies are excellent at finding DNA matches, there is still a way to go for full accuracy with ethnicity estimates. |
