AGM Saturday 1:30 pm 29 July Himatangi Beach

Image - Offroad camping at Le Mans. Come on NZ we can do this

Brrrr. The temperature has definately dropped a little this month. Bev and I will be heading to the South Island mid June and we expect it to be a tad cooler than what we are used to here in mild Manawatu.

Typically, our gas heater in the caravan has packed up and finding someone who can service it here is a bit tricky. A little bit of Googling and we came across Caravan Planet in Christchurch and spoke to the owner Steve who really knows his stuff. We are looking forward to popping into the workshop in Christchurch on our travels.

As an inclusive camping organisation we support all forms of campers from motorcyclists through to housetruckers. It doesn't matter whether you have a tent and pushbike or the latest Winnebago. We are continually lobbying councils to ensure that all NZ campers retain the opportunity to camp responsibly and sustainably around our regions.

Due to unfolding events around self containment this has taken most of our time but our priorities still lie with representing all campers.

All Points Camping NZ

is now an Issuing Authority for the

Self Containment Standard NZS 5465

On the 8th May 2017 the NZMCA executive made the decision to no longer process self containment certificates for non members with the exception of business partners.

This is understandable given the workload being placed on their volunteer testing officers but also disappointing to see the shift from being people focused to business.

We believe that it is important that NZ campers have a choice in getting their self containment documentation. They should not be forced to join an organisation or follow organisation specific rules just to get their certification.

  • Effective from 1 June All Points Camping NZ will be accepting correctly completed self containment certificates and issuing the documentation.
  • We have been in contact with MBIE and have secured a copyright licence, to reproduce a modified CSC checklist, which is available on our website.
  • Our public directory of businesses and individuals who can do self containment testing is online, live and mobile friendly. The directory will be added to as more testing officers and businesses register.
  • Any existing qualified self containment officer can forward completed checklists to All Points Camping and register on the free directory. Qualified testing officers are NOT ringfenced to any one organisation and are entitled to charge for their service.
  • Any person who believes they would like to be a CSC testing officer is invited to register. Our 4 module qualifying scheme shown above will be implemented on a case by case situation recognising prior skills, experience and aptitude.

What Does this Mean for Campers?

The CSC standards review committe has recently disbanded from considering amendments to the existing standard. Any changes will be known over the next few weeks and are expected to take effect from December 2017. In the interim the current standard NZS 5465 is the only legal standard.

Self containment certificates issued or renewed under the current standard will be valid for 4 years from the date of issue.

If you believe your camper may be excluded under the proposed changes it is anticipated that you will have until December to get it certified or renewed.

For the All Points Camping team it means a lot of hardwork on the horizon but with your help we can make a difference.
