An Evening of Guitar with Candice Mowbray and Danny Webber Danny Webber and I performed a concert of solos, duets and works for jazz trio in the Chapel on Old Main at Shippensburg University on March 8th. I opened the show by performing solo works that included arrangements of popular melodies, modern classical works and nineteenth-century parlor music. Coinciding with International Women's Day, attendees had the opportunity to hear a few works by women composers including Ida Presti and Vahdah Olcott Bickford. Danny joined me to play two ethereal duets for electric guitar by Ralph Towner (this was a real highlight for me) and the Danny Webber Trio, featuring Arnie Helmick on bass and Edgar Myers on drums, closed the program with upbeat, grooving pieces by Adam Rafferty and Pat Metheny. Danny also performed a lovely original piece titled, "Initial Thoughts." Thanks to music director, Mark Hartman, for organizing the event. Several live videos from the performance can be streamed on youtube: |

ProArte Chamber Orchestra of Greater Washington I am very excited to be performing Maximo Diego Pujol's Tangata de agosto for guitar and string quartet for the ProArte Chamber Orchestra's March 25th program at UCP Reston. I have been a fan of Pujol's compositions for a long time and have regularly programmed his pieces. "Pujol's works are inspired by the musical heritage of his native Argentina, especially from the music forms of the Río de la Plata, as well as from the different music forms of the rest of the country. The final purpose is the fusion of this cultural base and the European academic formal thinking. His extensive production has enriched remarkably the repertoire for the guitar and has gained the respect and the acknowledgment of the music world." –HenryLemoine.com. The orchestra will also perform works by Holst, Dvorak and De Falla. This is a very special opportunity for me and I am looking forward to the concert. Garden Waltz You could say I am making up for lost time but I have a second solo CD that will be released digitally on March 17, 2017. This project differs greatly from my recent CD of twentieth-century and contemporary French music, Reverie. It is a collection of charming American and European miniatures from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries that I recorded in my home studio and sent to engineer Keith Sylvester for mixing and mastering. Gathered from the online archives of the United States Library of Congress, old guitar journals and other resources, this lovely and light-hearted treasury of salon music showcases the era's penchants for waltzes and includes a selection of arrangements, character pieces and etudes. The disk makes for easy listening and documents my foray into home recording. It will be available on CDBaby.com and Itunes this St. Patrick's Day. Artist Lee McIntyre contributed the cover art work. *Several of the tracks from this set were used for the DVD box set, Civil War in Washington County, produced by Antietam Cable Televison. |
