Introducing:

ENGLISH HOMEWORK!

Dearest Parents and Guardians!

The time has come for my students to read at home in addition to at school. I need YOUR HELP to make sure that this happens!

I have given students a PURPLE sheet today that outlines our week's schedule and has important homework. Firstly, the back of the worksheet has vocabulary practice for students to engage with the words to succeed in permanently learning these words for their vernacular speech. Secondly, students are now required to read for 20 minutes three times a week. Students may read novels, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers, or other periodicals. No, facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media does NOT count--students should be reading published, real-world texts.

What I need YOU to do is sign off on Thursday nights that your student has actually completed the assignment. I have told the students not to ask you to become liars and to expect you NOT to sign if they have not done the work. Support me and your student by honoring your signature and your word!

The best way to get better at reading is TO READ! So let's get everyone reading! Students are more than welcome to ask for suggestions of what to read from me or other trusted sources. I am excited to see the students' progress as a result of this choice reading!

Happy reading!

Mrs. Heck
