Research carried out at Khon Kaen University in Thailand found in a randomized trial that patients receiving even a single session showed positive results. And patients receiving a standard session for only 30 minutes, three times a week for two weeks continued to outperform results from conventional drug based treatments.
Sixty patients with type-2 diabetes were recruited and randomly assigned into either the Thai foot massage or control groups. The Thai foot massage group received a modified Thai traditional foot massage for 30 min, 3 days per week for 2 weeks. Amongst other indicators foot sensation was tested before treatment, after the first single session, and after the 2-week treatment.
The Thai foot massage group showed significant improvements after the 2-week treatment period and the research concluded that Thai foot massage is a viable alternative treatment for diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy.
And Thai foot massage is a lovely treatment for everyone, not just those suffering with or worried about peripheral neuropathy. Benefits include improved circulation in legs and feet, stimulation of lymphatic drainage, removal of toxins, an immune system boost and detoxification, reduction in stiffness and improvement in joint flexibility, stress relief, improved sleep and total relaxation!
