Can regular massage make you live longer....?
We know that stress contributes to diseases and that massage can decrease stress and anxiety. You know how relaxed you feel after a massage session and the great news is that it could help you live longer too! Relaxed muscles, decreased pain and improved circulation allows your body to let go of the stress it habitually holds on to.
There are many studies testifying to the positive healing benefits of human touch but did you know that massage can be beneficial on a genetic level too?
A study found two ways that massage after exercise affects your genes. Firstly, a gene pathway that causes muscle inflammation was 'dialled down' in the muscles worked both immediately after and 2.5 hours after the massage. Conversely, another type of gene was 'switched on' by the massage. A gene that increases the activity of mitochondria in muscle cells (mitochondria are our cellular engine rooms that create energy).
Any natural therapy that can help to reduce inflammation and mitochondria to function better is definitely a good thing after exercise or any time!
Sounds good, huh!
