Are you aware of your stress?

4 April 2018

April is stress awareness month and this is a good opportunity to think about how stress affects you and your life.  And I am currently undergoing my Reiki mastership and I plan to run my first Reiki workshop this summer!

April is stress awareness month.  And did you know that stress is thought to be responsible for around 90% of all GP appointments?

Some of us are very aware of our stress as our bodies can't help but tell us.  Tension, musclular aches and niggles, restricted movement and knots, lethargy, low mood, difficulty sleeping...  Any of this sound familiar?

Regular massage sessions can help to address many of these. And it is so powerful to take time for yourself too.

BOOK NOW

I read a beautiful article this week about what it means to 'hold space' for someone - something therapists like me do so often in sessions.  And it is a priviledge to do this.  The article started with this quote:

“A healer does not heal you. A healer is someone who holds space for you while you awaken your inner healer, so that you may heal yourself.” ~Maryam Hasnaa

So what does holding space mean? It is quite difficult to put into words without actually using those same words. To me and in my therapy room it means being present with a client. Listening to you. Sharing in your emotions when appropriate. Being a non-judgmental support and being understanding of whatever it is they you going through.

It is about being accepting of who you are and what you are going through. And it is about being accepting of what has happened in your life and led you to this point.

Get in touch with me if this is something you are looking for in your therapist.

Can regular massage make you live longer....?

We know that stress contributes to diseases and that massage can decrease stress and anxiety. You know how relaxed you feel after a massage session and the great news is that it could help you live longer too! Relaxed muscles, decreased pain and improved circulation allows your body to let go of the stress it habitually holds on to.

There are many studies testifying to the positive healing benefits of human touch but did you know that massage can be beneficial on a genetic level too?

A study found two ways that massage after exercise affects your genes. Firstly, a gene pathway that causes muscle inflammation was 'dialled down' in the muscles worked both immediately after and 2.5 hours after the massage. Conversely, another type of gene was 'switched on' by the massage. A gene that increases the activity of mitochondria in muscle cells (mitochondria are our cellular engine rooms that create energy).

Any natural therapy that can help to reduce inflammation and mitochondria to function better is definitely a good thing after exercise or any time!

Sounds good, huh!

Have you experienced Reiki yet?

My practice first started with Reiki in 2012 when I was half way through my homeopathy degree.  And I haven't looked back since I had my Reiki attunements.

It is such a gentle therapy that works on your body's own innate healing mechanism.  It truly is 'designer' treatment as always adapts to your needs at the time of your session.

And I am delighted to be undertaking my Reiki mastership at the moment, which means that I will soon be able to offer Reiki workshops.

Reiki can help you to become more in tune with yourself and is relaxing and stress-reducing, helping to reduce those fabulous feel-good hormones.

Reiki level one allows you to practice Reiki on yourself and on family and friends.  Reiki level two is the practitioner level which means you can practice this wonderful therapy on paying clients once you are adequately insured.

If you feel that this is something you would like to know more about then do get in touch to register your interest.  I am planning on running a Reiki one workshop in the summer.
