State of the Fraternity Fellow Fraters, Parents, and Friends of the Fraternity, Since our last newsletter, the undergraduates of Epsilon Kappa have been very busy trying to end the semester on the strongest note possible. We have hosted two philanthropy events, held the third court and elected a brand new executive board. On November 5th, the new members held their own philanthropy event called “Silly String for St. Jude.” Having a new member philanthropy event was a new idea conceived by Frater Randazzo. For $2 the Loyola community could spray silly string on a TKE and the event raised $220. The new member set a goal of $100 and we were extremely proud of them. Having the new members host their own philanthropy event allowed the new members to experience leadership and the responsibility of hosting an event. Furthermore, we had our annual Crafts for Kids event on November 30th. Because of the great turnout, we have had for the event over the years, St. Jude asked us to not make any more Christmas cards because they were receiving too many. Our philanthropy chairman Lance Boehm and his committee came up with the great idea of making tie blankets. We had another fantastic turnout and made over 20 tie blankets for the children of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. On November 11th and 12th we held third court and initiation. The undergraduate brothers really enjoyed going back to the court system that so many alumni used in their time as an undergraduate. It is one of the many truly special parts of Epsilon Kappa that we have traditions that span decades. We initiated five fantastic men who truly embody our values of Love, Charity, and Esteem. Furthermore, we elected a brand new executive board, which will be introduced later in the newsletter. Frater Mitchell Heacock was elected the new Prytanis and I know without a shadow of a doubt he will continue our high standards. He is inheriting a fraternity that has won another Top Teke award and I know under his guidance we can win other. Fraters, I Love This Fraternity! Yours In The Bond, Patrick Siegmund, #883 |

Exiting Prytanis Statement Esteemed Alumni Fraters, Parents, Faculty and Friends of the Fraternity, I first want to congratulate the undergraduate brothers of Epsilon Kappa following another successful semester. While this semester may not have begun the way we expected, I could not be prouder of the way we finished. Serving as president for the last month and a half has been such a great honor for me and I cannot thank my brothers enough for their support and encouragement in such an arduous time. I also want to thank Frater Harry Conkey for his sacrifice and dedication to the Epsilon Kappa chapter the last two semesters. Lastly, I would like to thank our countless alumni, chapter advisors, school administrators, and TKE professional staff for their help and guidance. Without the dedication of so many, the Epsilon Kappa chapter would not be where it is today. Taking over as president midway through the Fall 2017 semester was something I had not envisioned. As a chapter, we have dealt with some adversity and were left with two choices. We could let our adversity spoil the progress our organization has made over the past four years, or we could make the best out of bad situation and show the Loyola community how valuable we are to our campus. I can proudly say we chose to be Better Men for a Better World. Our involvement grew even more at other organization’s philanthropy events and the undergraduate brothers became even more involved, winning three positions on the Interfraternity Council’s Executive Board (President, Vice President of Judicial Affairs, and Vice President of Philanthropy). I believe the resiliency we’ve shown this semester is one of the greatest characteristics of Epsilon Kappa. We refuse to quit and will do whatever it takes to be the top chapter at Loyola. I look forward to our continued growth as a chapter and as men. Since I joined Epsilon Kappa as a new member in the spring of 2015, I have witnessed this chapter do incredible things. The chapter has grown tremendously in chapter size, philanthropy dollars raised, and recognition. We have done incredible things like raising over $20,000 in one week for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We initiated five fantastic men this semester that embody our values of Love, Charity, and Esteem. We also submitted a 500-page report to the university for the Greek Standards and Awards Program. The report features categories covering chapter management, community service & philanthropy, leadership & membership development, and risk prevention & accountability. I know through the hard work of our executive board, we will win our fourth consecutive Top Chapter award here at Loyola and sweep the award slate for the second consecutive year. Every brother since 1956 has played a significant role in our storied history at Loyola. As a senior, it has been an honor and privilege to be a part of something so much bigger than myself. I know, like many of you, I would not be the man I am today without Epsilon Kappa and I am forever grateful for my time in this chapter. I know that under the Fraternity’s new leadership in Frater Mitchell Heacock and his executive board, Epsilon Kappa will continue to flourish. Thank you for the memories and opportunity to grow as a man and as a leader. Fraters, I Love This Fraternity! Yours In The Bond, Patrick J. Siegmund, #883 |

Incoming Prytanis Statement Esteemed Alumni Fraters, Parents, Faculty and Friends of the Fraternity, I would like to thank everyone in the chapter for believing in me and electing me as the new Prytanis. It is with great honor that I take this position, and with the help of our entire e-board and chapter members, I hope to do everything that I can during this next term to make this chapter and this brotherhood stronger. Every member deserves to get out of TKE whatever they would like to, and my goal is that every brother can experience that. Throughout the course of this next year, I hope our chapter members continue to grow closer to each other and with our alumni. I also plan to work in conjunction with our alumni and our great Histor to build a better networking system with the active brothers and them. Also, I plan to further our success on campus and become more involved with other non-Greek organizations. The brothers of TKE at Loyola are a family and this upcoming year I hope to work in conjunction with our fantastic recruitment chairs and recruit more great brothers. Finally, I would like to represent TKE in the best light possible. Out of respect for the brothers of the Epsilon-Kappa chapter and the fraternity as a whole, I promise to embody love, charity, and esteem. The members of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Loyola are a special group of guys that strive for excellence and with that being said I plan to continue that reputation and further the growth of this great organization. Again, thank you for this opportunity, and I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! Fraters, I Love This Fraternity! Yours In The Bond, Mitchell Heacock, #900 Prytanis |

Esteemed Alumni, Fraters, Parents, Faculty, and Friends of the Fraternity, On November 12th Epsilon Kappa initiated five men into our brotherhood; (pictured left to right) Thaer Mohamad, Joseph Ranieri, Tyree Henderson, Adrian Lazo, and Byron Mandell. Each of these young men demonstrated their commitment to our pillars and principles of love, charity, and esteem. They completed their journey with flying colors and making the chapter and myself more than proud. They held their own philanthropy fundraiser that benefited St. Jude Children's Hospital. The name of the event, Silly String for St. Jude, was a resounding success raising over $225 in an afternoon from small donations. The event was held on campus in Damen Student Center where students would donate $2 dollars to silly string a Teke in the face. The event proved their hard work, dedication, and pride in our core principles that govern us as fraters in the bond. These five men will do great things for our chapter. I am confident in saying that they will push our chapter to new heights. Fraters, I Love This Fraternity! Yours In The Bond, Joseph Jon Randazzo, #878 Exiting Hegemon |

On Thursday, November 30th, 2017, the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon hosted their fourth annual fall service event Crafts for Kids, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. From 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, over 75 students from the Loyola community came by to help make holiday-themed tie blankets to the tune of Christmas music and some tasty coffee and donuts. We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who helped out and give a special shoutout to the ladies of Chi Omega for having the most attendees! |
|
|
In total, we were able to make 20 full sized tie blankets to give to the patients of St. Jude and help make a child’s holiday. The event was a huge success and a great time for both the brothers of TKE and the Loyola community. |
