Sing-a-long sa FilComm Centre This was the first fundraising event of the Bulwagan Foundation Trust at the Filipino Community Centre after its official opening on 26 September 2015. The magicsing that Ambassador Virginia Benavidez presented as a gift was used to fundraise for the night. The organisers would like to thank all of those who participated and to Tibiao Bakery for catering the food on that night. They manage to raise $250 which is not bad considering each participants only paid $2 per song. It was a fun night of singing and a bit of dancing! Surely, this will not be the last time as more people are getting keen to join next time. |

Community News Brothers Anton Pagalilawan and Elian Pagalilawan both represented New Zealand in the 3rd Goju-ryu World Karate Championship in Auckland over the weekend and won some nice bling (i.e. the medals were minted by the same company that made the 2012 London Olympics medals). It was the biggest international karate competition NZ has ever hosted with 26 countries represented by 372 competitors. The younger one, Elian, as you know became Commonwealth Cadet Male Kata champion (all styles) in September and finished top 10 in the World Karate Championships Cadet Male Kata event (all styles) early November. This time, it was the battle for being the best in one style – Goju-ryu, and he won gold. It was a really good performance as he scored all his rounds 5-0! On top of that, he won bronze in the Under 52kg cadet male kumite (sparring) event. Three major international tournaments in one year, three very strong results – excellent finish to the year. The older boy, Anton, staged his comeback after two years of not competing (busy with uni). He won bronze in the Individual Seniors Open Male Kata event (gold – Germany, silver – South Africa, equal 3rd – New Caledonia) and another bronze in the Senior Team Kata event. Not bad for an old(er) karateka. J At the conclusion of the tournament, NZ topped the medal tally with a staggering 28 golds followed by South Africa with 10 golds and Czech Republic with 8 golds. The next Goju-ryu Worlds will be in Romania 2017. Thanks again to everyone for your unending support! |
