Spice Up Your Card-a-Day Practice with a “Choice Card”

What is a Tarot Card a Day?

A Card a Day Tarot is standard practice for many cartomancers. A Card a Day requires setting aside five minutes or more each morning to quiet your mind and pull a random Tarot card. The information you gather from the card can be used for contemplation, a head’s up for the day’s energy, a possibility for reflection or anything your heart desires.

I’ve been pulling a Card a Day every morning for overa decade and always look forward to it. It’s usually performed after a flurry of morning activities when I reclaim space for myself.

Had a run of dark cards, recently. Tarotists usually recognize each card has light and dark, no card is “good” or “bad.” But sometimes, you wake up, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the last thing you want is the Nine of Swords staring up at you (or crying onto her hands). Especially, if you are in a great mood. That’s when I came up with a “Choice Card.” The Choice Card has been officially ingrained and I love it!

What is Choice Card?

A Choice Card is a second card pulled after your Card of the Day. The Choice Card reflects an option that will be available to you all day long.

Example:

Pulled a Card of the Day – The Five of Swords. Reflecting on the card, it looks like negativity might be flying around. I may get sucked into it. Fives in Tarot always reflect challenge and the Five of Swords suggests using your powerful words carefully.

Pulled a Choice Card – The Eight of Cups. Decide the available choice is ~ no matter what I do today, I can push myself further ~ denoted by the figure walking away and taking a “high road.” Today, opportunities for advancement are available. The solar eclipse on the top left of the card reminds me there’s a unique magic to this day.

Why is a Choice Card Awesome?

A Choice Card is a reminder that the future rests firmly in our hands. We are not slaves to fate, fortune and destiny. We create our life. We can choose love, peace, passion and pleasure. A Choice Card is the ultimate daily reminder of your personal power!

Summer Passport Spread

I love creating Tarot spreads around actual objects and/or people (yes I've been known to cast the cards on my husband's back).

Summer's here!

Time for a travel spread.

Place your Passport in the center of the Spread.

Starting from top card, move clockwise and pay attention to #3:

1. Where do I need to go?

2. What helps me get there?

3. How do I make it happen?

4. What is the end result?

Ritual to Connect with Summer from 365 Tarot Spells

Here is a ritual, with plenty of time to prepare it for June 20, to tap into the glorious energy of summer!

Ingredients

  • The Sun card
  • Favorite summer items and symbols
  • Method, Visualization, and Meditation

Working with the seasonal energy is like working within the moon’s phases. The energy surrounds us; we need only to be open to it in order to access its gifts. The energetic qualities of summer include expression, vitality, harmony, contentedness, and celebration.

Gather seasonal energy like a weaver gathering silken strands. Sultry night, plump stone fruits, wildflowers, fresh vegetables plucked from the garden, lazy days of swimming and frolicking, and tangerine pink sunsets support you and your magical intent.

Collect your favorite summer objects to place around the Sun card. You might select your fresh-picked flowers, suntan lotion, scattered flower petals, seashells, glitter, lemons. Place all items around the Sun card and then enter the card.

The warmth of this card is echoed in the warmth outside your window. What is the child looking at in the card? Turn your attention around so you can see the lush bounty blossoming behind you. Examine the stone wall; run your palms across it. This wall is the natural barrier of what you have known and experienced in your life. You see the sunflowers growing beyond it. This is the undiscovered, uncultivated possibility that exists for you. Walk to the flowers and hold them in your hand; stroke the inside of them with your finger. Acknowledge the wild magic of the unknown and unexpected that will burst forth in your life by keeping an open mind and heart.

This space is the result of your passion, work, and personal exuberance. Bask in the glory you have created. Explore into the card as far as you can go on your own.
