Highlights from the Blog and Facebook

You can always climb back on board. In fact, you can climb back on board right now. Right now, reading this. You can't go back and un-smoke those cigarettes, un-eat those Twinkies, or un-drink those drinks. But you can start right here, right now, and make this your new Day One.

You’re not your past. All of those things shape you, yes...but you are more than the sum of your pain.

Not everybody will like you. Not everybody will approve of you. And that’s okay. They don’t have to. The world will not end. People will be annoyed with you— and life will go on.

We're designed to need rest--not only because it feels good, but because periods of rest are where our perspective gets realigned. After a period of rest like a night's sleep, we can look at our circumstances and challenges with fresh eyes.

Remember: you are not the person you were when you made your last poor judgement call. The very fact that you can look back on it and see it as a poor judgment call means you've evolved. Maybe you've just evolved a little-- but it counts.

There is no shame in becoming an addict. It's not your fault. Our brains are designed in such a way that it's really, really hard to NOT get hooked on some of the easy sources of pleasure and escape in our world-- especially our current world, in which gratification is often available at the click of a link. You didn't become an addict because you're weak. And you're not going to overcome your addiction by calling yourself weak. Or stupid, or lazy, or evil. You're going to need to develop some skills to do this.

Friday, September 13th (AM)

You know how some people tell you to "never settle?" Dumb advice. The truth is, there's a time and a place to settle for something that may not be your ideal, best-of-all-worlds scenario...but is also, literally, good enough for right here, right now.

When you're looking for answers or solutions...start simply. Don't leap right to the big picture. Don't leap right to sweeping generalization about life, about yourself, about your future, about other people. Start with the basics. Am I using my skills and tools?
