The 44th International Viola Congress has been uploaded to the NZ Immigration Events Calendar so that the processing offices, as well as Border colleagues, are aware of this event. Participants who are from visa waiver countries will not need to apply for a visitor visa prior to travel. They will however need to meet standard entry requirements, including being of good health and character, having evidence of outward travel to a country they have right of entry to and sufficient funds for maintenance while in NZ. |

Participants who are not from visa waiver countries will need to apply for a visitor prior to travel. Countries affected are Hong Kong, Russia and Thailand. Your country will be defined by your citizenship - where your Passport was issued. |

The Pōwhiri is a centuries-old tradition in Maori culture, which symbolizes the arrival of one tribe onto the sacred ground of another. It is a deeply moving experience and we are greatly honoured that the Pipitea Marae has agreed to welcome the International Viola Congress delegates in this dignified ceremony. Please mark this down as a powerful life event that you absolutely shouldn’t miss. A full turnout of everyone is requested. Please assemble at St Andrew’s at noon on September 1, where our co-hosts, Donald Maurice and Gillian Ansell, will briefly welcome you to the congress. We will then all walk together to Pipitea Marae (about 15 minutes). On arrival there will be a briefing on protocols and what to expect. We (the manuhiri) will then be led on to the Marae and His Worship Justin Lester (Mayor of Wellington) and Carlos Maria Solare (President of the International Viola Society, will make speeches on our behalf, reassuring the hosts (the tangata whenua) that we come in peace. Once inside we will be served afternoon tea. |

Join us at Parliament on September 4th from 6:30pm for the 44th IVC Gala Dinner - there are still some seats available! The final event of the viola congress is a banquet dinner at Parliament hosted by the Honorable Chris Finlayson (Attorney General), a passionate supporter of the arts and especially music. This is a rare opportunity that can only occur at the invitation of a Member of Parliament. It gives a glimpse of the inside of Parliament. The Grand Hall is a magnificent room and the catering is exquisite. The cost of $90 is well worth it and it includes a selection of New Zealand’s fine wines. Bookings must be registered by one week before for catering purposes. Like the Powhiri, this is not to be missed. There is a maximum number allowed so book soon to avoid disappointment. Register online or by emailing Becky Grenfell (becky@paardekooper.nz). |
