The NBAA hosted the 1st National Tournament of 2017 on the 25th of February on Lake Oanob. The event was well attended with some of the old familiar faces returning from a well-deserved break. The Captain’s meeting was buzzing with excitement as the dam water level stood at 75,5% receiving a lot of inflow from where it stood at about 28% three weeks prior to the competition. This dramatic increase in water level definitely called for a tough competition but this did not put a damper on our spirits as we know we are in for a good year of fishing! A total of 6 fish made it to the scales but all anglers had a blast experiencing the dam at such a high water level.

The results of the tournament are as follows:
 Senior Men:
1. Jandre Engelbrecht     1 fish   3.676 kg
2. Nic Kruger                   1 fish   3.002 kg
3. Alec Williams               1 fish   2.051 kg
 
The biggest fish of the day was caught by Jandre weighing in at 3.676 kg.

 
Jandre’s summary of the competition is as follows:

I caught my fish on a white and chartreuse spinnerbait. My strategy was to target green bushes submerged in about 3 feet of water. I also used crankbaits and a light texas fluke but the spinner proved to be the most effective.

Nic’s summary of the day is as follows:

I used a war eagle spinnerbait in white and chartreuse with one silver and gold willow leaf blade. I targeted brush on points close to shallow water where the baitfish was. Steven my boat partner caught his fish on a blue and chrome rattle trap on steep banks.

Alec’s summary of the day is as follows:
 
I caught my fish on mojo baby brush hog june bug 3/16 oz sinker. My strategy was to cover as much water as possible..

Well done to all three gentlemen! Those are some decent size fish you caught under very challenging conditions!
