Supporting adult-ed students' transition to campus

In May 2016, the Senate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Caucus and Alliance for Excellent Education held a panel focused on pathway models and the outcomes of participating students. Community colleges are crucial in this effort.  Watch the webinar (begins at 25 minute mark), which includes more from Tulare County’s success (43 minute mark). Like South San Mateo County, Tulare County is agricultural with a high migrant population in need of ESL.

To help students develop invaluable skills while exploring career options, the Business, Design & Workforce Division has organized a Career Skills JAM for three Fridays in October.  Please encourage students to sign up for this great opportunity-- lunch is provided!

How can Cañada College support adult-ed students? While state funding is available to aid adult students' transition to CTE programs, realistically, most of our local adult-ed students aren't ready to jump straight into CTE. They need ESL. They need math. They need not only basic skills but soft skills, too, as well as encouragement, guidance and support. For us to be effective, we must ultimately convey this message as an institution.
