We cannot thank you enough for the tremendous support you all have given us. From the very beginning you’ve had our collective back. From the Indiegogo campaign to just general help on social media or applying to be a volunteer. You’ve all done such a wonderful job helping us get our name out there. You did that and you helped bring light to how much our event is needed. Not only is it needed for the women in tv and movies today, but it is very much needed for those who will be leading the pack in years to come. For all of that, we say thank you.
This whole event has been a labor of love. I know I personally have lost sleep and tears over getting things put together in a way that you all could be proud of. Everything seems to be lining up in a certain way and the excitement built quickly. However, this is when we need to call upon you once more to have our backs. Though we’ve had an intense presence on social media, handed out and posted fliers, bought ads and wrote letters we just have not hit the mark…..at least not yet. It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that we will be postponing WiSHCon until sometime in 2017. Did I say cancel? ABSOLUTELY NOT! We are more passionate than ever about making this event come to life, but without massive ticket sales and sponsors, it just is not possible to have this event in November 2016.
What does that mean for you?
For Vendors:
You have two choices. You can retain your table until a new date is announced. If that date does not work for you, you may request a refund by contacting us thru our email. OR you may request a refund now, but please understand this refund will not happen tomorrow. It may take up to 6 months to refund your money for the table. Whichever you decide to do, we will do our best to accommodate you in any way that we can.
For Ticket Holders:
You have two choices. You may keep your current ticket/pass and we will honor it when the convention is reset. There will be a system in place to make sure that your tickets are honored. Or, you may ask for a refund. Just as I stated above, if you do this, it may take up to 6 months to refund your money.
Why will it take so long to get a refund?
Quite simply, we do not have the money. The money you all spent on Indiegogo, ticketleap or as a vendor has all gone to making this event happen. $5000 of it went for our deposit for the venue and hotel. About $280 went for the tote bags. $80 went towards shipping the perks and supplies. $35 a month for the website (since Oct 2015) and advertising (about $300 since Oct 2015). This has all been paid for by the roughly $4000 from indiegogo, $2200 from vendor table purchases and about 13 admission tickets and 8 photo op tickets. For the sake of transparency, we have roughly $700 in our bank account after all of that. That is simply not enough to repay everyone immediately. I encourage you to hang on to your tickets and we will honor them. If you do not want to do this, we ask for your patience.
How do we know the event will ever happen?
We all learned a lot of very hard lessons with this initial event planning. I am fairly certain I can speak for our entire board when I say that we will be approaching and doing things a LOT differently this time. Until we have enough money to bring you all a great event, we will not post info or sell tickets for it.
Is there anything I can do to help?
Absolutely! Keep showing your support for these amazing women in Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy and every other realm of TV and Movies. Be patient with us and feel free to check in with us on social media or via email if you have any questions or concerns.
Finally, I want to take a moment to apologize from the bottom of my heart that this event even has to be postponed. I did all that I could and tried to rally as many people around as I could to make this happen. I take 100% full blame for the postponement. My board has been amazing and worked their tails off and I ask that you show them mercy and not take it out on any of them. I know you all will be upset and hurt and even angry. I get it. I truly and honestly get it. Just know that I hear you and I am going to do even more to make this happen in 2017. I love every one of you for your support and I hope that in some way, even if it is small, we still have that.
Thank you for your time. Thank you for everything.
